Kevin Ticehurst: Even when they were six wickets down, Australia never looked like panicking and we totally over bowled Ecclestone. Australia might as well declare now and have a go at us.

  2. Aus 449-8published at 117 overs

Garth is no slouch with the bat. She confidently turns Ecclestone round the corner and it runs down to the boundary for four more.

Some weary looking faces in the England side now.

Karen: Listening via BBC Sounds on the beach and doing a crossword. Struggling with 50 down. Surely the clue should be Radio 4 LW?

  4. Aus 444-8published at 116 overs

Sutherland is confident enough to take the single second ball, and Garth breaks the rather soporific start to the afternoon session - too wide from Kate Cross and she's cut hard to the boundary.

    444-8, quadruple Nelson - Napoleon's nightmare.

Anyone else already fearing an "and England lose by an innings and so many runs" type scenario?

This is the fourth highest total Australia have ever made in Women's Test cricket.

  7. Aus 439-8published at 115 overs

Not in this over, she can't.

Garth bats out the maiden - Ecclestone's ninth of the innings.

Sophie Ecclestone - who else? - has the ball in hand at the other end.

Perhaps she can remove debutant Kim Garth?

  9. Aus 439-8published at 116 overs

Centurion Annabel Sutherland faces the first over of the session.

She takes the over to get her eye back in, comfortably patting a few of Cross's deliveries away and comfortably ducking the short ball.

    Right then.

Kate Cross is back at the top of her mark and wielding the red ball once more. Can England make a breakthrough in the afternoon session?

    Let's find out.

I'm sure the right percentage has been on the tip of your tongue for the last three hours, but if you've spent that time crippled with indecision then we're here to put you out of your misery.

    Andy asked:

As a whole, in the history of Test cricket, men’s and women’s, in what percentage of innings of 90-plus, has the batter been out before reaching 100? (Ignoring innings in which players finished not out in the 90s.)

And what percentage of centuries have ended with the hundred-maker being out for 100 to 109? (Again, ignoring innings ending not out in the 100s.)

    And here's the answers:

Out in the 90s in Tests: 17.5%.

Out from 100 to 109 in Tests: 20.4%.

Below the 150s, the Nineties are the ten-run bracket in which Test cricketers are least likely to get out.

Hello from “the cover band guy” from yesterday’s rain break. I cannot thank you enough for the suggestions. Unfortunately my uninitiated musical colleagues are not cricket fans and had no idea what I was talking about. Whatever we end up being called, we’ll always be “Billy Bowden and the Crooked Fingers” in my heart!

Some breaking news from the men's series.

Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has been added to the England squad for the second Test as cover for Moeen Ali, who is struggling with a finger injury.

The 18-year-old, who plays his county cricket for Leicestershire, took seven wickets against Pakistan on debut last winter.

He now stands a chance of making his second Test appearance in the match at Lord's, which starts on Wednesday.

Has Heather Knight forgotten there's a second innings? The bowlers will have nothing left! Really surprised by the lack of other bowling options being used. Emma Lamb has a bit of a golden arm!

Mind boggles at what might have happened had Meg Lanning joined the tour. Alyssa however is showing the same ruthlessness that Meg would have by keeping England in the field.

Dear oh dear, this really has been some 'Buffet' bowling (as Beefy called it) from the England women today. Sutherland should have been caught off the very next ball after her Ton. We're on our heels much too much.

  19. 'I hope to get up the order'published at 13:16 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

Australia's centurion Annabel Sutherland talking to Sky Sports: "It was pretty good fun out there. I absolutely love my batting. It was good to get out through last night and it was nice to get a good start this morning and get through to lunch.

"I hope to get up the order, I've been telling the coach that for a little while. I'm just happy playing my part in this team, we've got a good time so it's just about slotting in.

"All throughout the team there is great role models. Ellyse Perry has been awesome for me, the way she goes about cricket, and prepares, and I've taken a lot from her and put that into my game.

"The pitch is breaking up a little bit so on day four and five there might be a bit more going on."

A real show of confidence. I am surprised Australia have not declared, it should have happened 20 minutes before lunch and then having to get back in. I think time at the crease for Annabel is also crucial as well.
