It's just patience from Sutherland, waiting for that delivery. A perfect drive, just too full from Kate Cross. A beautiful drive. The word on the street in Australia is that Sutherland at her age is better than Perry was at that age...

  2. Aus 346-7published at 91 overs

Kate Cross' first ball to Annabel Sutherland nips away and the England seamer is given a clap of encouragement from the slip cordon.

Two balls later, though, and a beautiful straight drive from Sutherland races down the ground for four.

    That shot absolutely oozed class.

Lauren Filer and her action, she's got that little bit of Bob Willis behind her, just flicking the hand back before bowling.

  4. Aus 342-7published at 90 overs

    Lauren Filer looks threatening.

Her fourth ball is angled into Alana King and climbs off the pitch. Alana King was looking to cut that, but was beaten for pace.

Five dots from Filer before King works a full delivery off her pads and picks up a couple of runs.

I think you're going to see a different Lauren Filer on another occasion. She's traditionally an away swing bowler.

I personally think this is a Dukes ball they should not be playing with. This Dukes, there's different of Dukes, I'd like to know more on that and investigate that more.

Proactive captaincy from Heather Knight as she makes an early bowling change by throwing the ball to young tyro Lauren Filer.

We need to get this tied up to get some more momentum and there's nothing more to depleting than to still be out there. Australia have got the toss and got the conditions but England will get their way.

  8. Aus 340-7published at 89 overs

Much tighter lines from Kate Cross as Annabel Sutherland sees off a maiden from the England seamer.

The ball is only eight overs old, but not a whole lot of movement through the air or off the pitch thus far.

I'm sure I've heard Zaltz talk about this before. The "nervous nineties" are a myth and the "nervous noughties" more legit. Going with 3% (90s) vs 8%.

    I’m going 5% fall on 99 but 50% fall before 110. Psychology or something…

I'm surprised England didn't go to Lauren Filer first thing this morning.

She did unsettle the Australians yesterday and if you asked them what they'd least like to face at the start of the day, surely it would be her extra pace.

  11. Aus 340-7published at 88 overs

Lauren Bell drops the fourth ball of her second over short to Alana King and the Aussie batter gets over the top of it and clinically cuts it to the boundary for four.

Annabel Sutherland, one of the best all-rounders in the world, who opens in domestic cricket, is batting at No.8.

  13. Aus 335-7published at 87 overs

Annabel Sutherland with her first runs of the day with a neat clip off her legs after Kate Cross strays on to her pads. The ball dribbles down to fine leg and the Aussie batters run a couple.

Quite a subdued start by England as the crowd slowly starts to filter into Trent Bridge.

Kate Cross is thrown the ball and shines it on her trousers before doing some final stretches. She will bowl the second over the day.

I think these two batters will stick around for a bit and then King will dip and then you are left with Kim Garth and Darcie Brown.

  17. Aus 332-7published at 86 overs

A loose-ish start from Lauren Bell. She sprays it about a bit in the opening over of the day as she attempts to get the cogs and gears moving in sync.

Alana King latches on to one which is a little full third ball and drives it on the up through gully for four.

I was thinking overnight who would be happier. I think Australia will be slightly happier having opted to bat first. England had their moments, but they just weren't able to put pressure on for long periods with their bowling. Australia will be happier.

  19. Postpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

Alana King has just taken guard, Lauren Bell has the ball in hand at the top of her mark.

England have two slips, a gully and a leg gully.

    "Play" says umpire Sue Redfern.

The pitch will be a bit harder today. It will all be about the swing of that new Dukes ball, it is only five overs old. They should be able to keep it swinging quite well. England need to look after it.
