The outside edge is still as good a chance as any to get Steve Smith. But to produce that delivery to this fella once he's set is not so easy.

Rohit Sharma is animatedly shifting his fielders around to try and make a trap for Steve Smith, who is watchful without being fluent.
This feels like a crucial period of the match with about 45 minutes until tea.
The run rate this session is currently above four, helped by some brilliant attacking shots like this from Steve Smith - albeit from some helpful deliveries by Shardul Thakur.

There is a little bit of spin there for Jadeja but he is getting some nice drift as well.

This is a good little battle between Jadeja and Head at the moment.
Ravindra Jadeja is getting the over rate going at least. It has been painfully slow so far.
He gets a bit of drift away from Travis Head and very nearly creates a bat/pad chance for the fielder at short leg.

I can't help but think as this game progresses that the big story is going to be India not selecting Ashwin.
He's the number one bowler in the world at the moment and the hardest thing about being head coach is selection.
They can only go on what they saw this morning and there was a lot of grass on the wicket. But my sense is that it's Ashwin and there are a couple of left-handers in the Australia team.

Travis Head was a bit lucky not to be on his way there. That zipped just past the edge.
Shardul Thakur has been brilliant this spell and arguably deserves a wicket.
This was another fine delivery. Going over the wicket to Travis Head and luring the Aussie batter into a play and miss outside his off stump.
Bringing Ravindra Jadeja on is a popular choice if the cheer from the crowd is anything to go by.
He has a slip and leg slip in place for Steve Smith, who is energetic as ever in his crease. There's a flurry of excitement as a slightly quicker delivery leg side delivery clips off the thig pad and loops just over leg slip.
Smith made sure the bat was nowhere near the ball, however.
India respond with a change of bowling and for the first time today we will see some spin as Ravindra Jadeja enters the attack.

If you bowl there to Steve Smith he'll keep hitting you for four after four after four. That's a bad ball.
You bowl there, you will go for runs.
Shardul Thakur is full and wide outside off stump and Steve Smith drives gloriously through the covers. The next ball is drifting onto leg and Smith helps himself to another boundary through square leg.
A couple of freebies there for a player of Smith's quality. The momentum is starting to shift Australia's way.

One of the things that Travis Head does different to a lot of modern players is that he plays a lot off the back foot.
They play the pull shot and even the cut shot off the front foot.
Head plays a high percentage off the back foot - that's why he is so hard to bowl to. Bowlers have to go very full and if they do and go over-full, he can hit them either side of the wicket.
A touch of fortune for Travis Head. He goes for another wild pull and the ball flies off a top edge and over the slips for four runs. It is a no ball too from Shardul Thakur.
Both Aussie batters are looking to be aggressive, but with mixed results so far.

With the Ashes returning, can we resume referring to a Steve Smith wicket as a 'Smicket', thus avoiding the disappointment of realising that, once again, the Australian wicket that has fallen is indeed not his.

It was an extraordinary shot from Head. He would never have been able to control it.
Every so often an India seamer can get one to leap up off the surface. Mohammed Shami does so here and it catches Travis Head by surprise. He almost catches the ball in his gloves after it smacked into his chest.
The next delivery is short and wide, but Head fails to make contact with a rather wild effort. The ball could have gone anywhere had he made contact.

Steve Smith has been pushing and prodding, not really playing shots with much conviction but the last one was a lot more forthright.
There's a brief flurry of excitement from the India fans in the crowd as Ajinkya Rahane makes a diving stop at gully to deny Travis Head - though the ball had already hit the ground.
Meanwhile, the spider cam is causing Steve Smith some bother. He looks visibly frustrated as it wanders across his eyeline and he pulls away with Shardul Thakur in his delivery stride.
Maybe he needed to get wound up slightly as the next delivery is beautifully tucked away off his pads for four.
That could be an ominous sign for India as we pause for drinks.
