Very good catch from Shubman Gill. Green still seemed to be in T20 mode and I guess that is the reason for his downfall.

Another wicket for India here and if they can keep Australia in the 450 zone they will be happy with it.

Green c Gill by Shami 6 (Aus 376-5)

    Another goes!

Mohammed Shami has his second wicket of the match as he tempts Cameron Green with a full, wide delivery outside off stump.

Green plays a wafty drive and edges through to Shubman Gill, who takes a smart catch at second slip.

  4. Aus 376-4published at 94 overs

Mohammed Siraj's face is a picture as he gets one to rise up at Steve Smith, but the Aussie batter manages to guide the ball fine down to third man for four.

Smith, so good at working the ball all around the square, then managed to pierce the gap square in the on side the next delivery.

    Siraj looks exasperated.

Here is the first wicket of the day to fall, as Travis Head finally succumbed to the short ball.

I had chat with Steve Smith before play and said "good toss to lose, was it?" He said no. He didn't think the India bowlers attacked the stumps enough.

  7. Aus 368-4published at 93 overs

Steve Smith gets in a bit of a tangle as he shuffles across his stumps (again) and attempts to play the ball into the on side, but very nearly plays a leading edge straight back to Mohammed Shami.

Shami gives him a glare. Smith smiles and nods in appreciation.

    It's getting feisty out there.

This was how Travis Head reached his 150, a perfectly timed cut backward of square.

  9. Aus 367-4published at 92 overs

All-rounder Cameron Green, who has been waiting patiently to come in since just after lunch yesterday, opens the face and guides his first ball away for four.

A nudges two just wide of square leg follows before a fired-up Mohammed Siraj then bangs one in short, forcing Green to duck right down low.

There is suddenly a spring in the step of the India players. After a difficult two-and-a-bit sessions they finally have an opening.

It was a strange shot from Head. Instead of pulling the ball hard he's tried to tickle the ball fine. He should have flat-batted a conventional pull shot.

It seems a bit daft to say about a bloke who made 163, but Travis Head has been discomforted by the short ball. England will be watching. For the Tests Mark Wood can't play, you wonder if Josh Tongue's prospects have improved.

    Head c Bharat b Siraj 163 (Aus 361-4)

    Jinxed it!

The short ball has trouble Travis Head throughout and he finally nicks one from Mohammed Siraj through to Srikar Bharat.

A magnificent innings comes to an end. That has woke the India fans in the crowd up, who were looking increasingly concerned.

  13. Aus 361-3published at 91 overs

Travis Head and Steve Smith are meeting aggression with aggression as Head pulls Mohammed Siraj through a gap and over the square leg boundary, before Smith drives powerfully through the covers.

Travis Head is now 163 from 173 deliveries. I'm reliably informed by my esteemed colleague Matthew Henry that the fastest Aussie double ton is Adam Gilchrist from 212 balls.

    Just saying.

The short ball is a weakness in Head's game. You can see it there.

Eagle-eyed England coaches will have seen that.

  17. Aus 351-3published at 90 overs

You have to feel a bit for Mohammed Siraj there as Travis Head twice gets away with a poor shots from short deliveries.

The first did not rise up as high as Head thought and ended up fending the ball off into the off side.

Two deliveries later Head plays a wild pull that top-edges into the Oval sky, but lands safe between a clutch on onrushing fielders.

This is how Steve Smith brought up his century. And just look at the determination on his face.

  20. Aus 345-3published at 89 overs

For the first time today Mohammed Siraj gets a bit of variable bounce as one keeps a bit low and Srikar Bharat does well to take on the bounce behind the stumps.

There has been little else to trouble the Australia batters so far though. It already feels like it could be a long day for India.
