This has been a very good over from Van Meekeren. That yorker was 86mph and a cross-seam delivery that has just snuck under the bat.

  2. NZ 135-1published at 25 overs

Another sign of that tidy bowling I was talking about at the halfway mark, with Van Meekeren's return to the attack going for just three runs.

A yorker in the fourth ball of the over is a beauty and it gave Young plenty to deal with.

Young does have an excellent record in ODI cricket against the Netherlands. It is his fourth match against them and in two of the previous three, he reached three figures with the bat.

Vikram Singh will now have a bowl for the first time today.

We're having a bail change. I wonder what's happened there? A zing bail has ceased to zing.

  4. NZ 132-1published at 24 overs

Ackermann goes for 10 in that over, but almost finds himself with a chance of a wicket off the final ball, another uppish chip from Young is almost caught on the dive at short mid-wicket.

Netherlands' bowling has been fairly tidy despite a lack of wickets, with every bowler's economy (runs conceded per over) being around the 5.5 mark or lower, barring Ackermann, who is going at 7s.

Ravindra has got hold of that one. Not quite into the second tier but he's sent some of the fans scurrying for the ball.

  6. 6 runs

    NZ 128-1published at 23.1 overs

The first ball of Ackermann's over is thumped over the leg-side boundary and into the second tier of the stands, a glorious stroke.

Young and Ravindra are showing an ability to put away the bad ball without looking in any kind of trouble elsewhere.

I really like Bas de Leede. I think there's something about him with bat and ball.

  8. NZ 122-1published at 23 overs

Steady stuff from Bas de Leede, with just five runs coming from it.

He took four wickets against Pakistan on Friday and the Netherlands know how important he is in hopes of taking wickets, especially with Logan van Beek's absent.

New Zealand know there is a little bit in the surface so you've got to be slightly wary of that.

  10. NZ 117-1published at 22 overs

Ten come off that over from Colin Ackermann. Something we have seen is success for part-time spinners in this tournament, with Ackermann and Glenn Phillips among them.

Young and Conway looked settled and with Ravindra now into the 20s, Netherlands will want to limit the momentum that these two can build as a partnership.

That's a really fine shot. I'm not sure he totally timed it, Will Young didn't quite get to the pitch of the ball but he got enough of it.

  12. 6 runs

Young goes bigpublished at 21.2 overs

    NZ 115-1

Young goes downtown and effortlessly thumps the ball back over Ackermann's head, all the way for six.

There is the odd aggressive shot, but just like New Zealand started this tournament, there is a sense of calmness around their batting.

Ravindra doesn't need brute force. There's a touch of elegance about what he does.

Guided brilliantly by Ravindra. It went like a rocket.

  15. NZ 107-1published at 21 overs

It had been a solid start to the over from De Leede, almost giving his side a chance when Young chipped his shot just wide of the fielder at short mid-wicket.

Ravindra does find the boundary off the over's penultimate delivery, a swat of sorts as he looks to pick up from where he left off five days ago.

    Thanks, Callum.

Netherlands have slowed the scoring a little bit in recent overs, but Will Young has just reached 50 and Rachin Ravindra will be oozing in confidence after his century against England last time out.

    Your move, Netherlands.

In a tribute to Scott Edwards and his ever-changing bowling attack, we're going to have a change too.

Jonty Colman will take you through the next phase of the New Zealand innings.

    Enjoy!

Having got out first ball against England, that'll be a very welcome half-century for Will Young.

He'll want to go on from this.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Will Youngpublished at 20 overs

    NZ 102-1

We've just seen some pictures of the Netherlands sub fielders running out with pieces of paper in between overs. Fielding plans? Match-ups?

Scott Edwards must have a lot running through his head seeming he's already used six bowlers.

Aryan Dutt continues and Will Young reaches his half-century with a clip into the leg side for a single.

It comes up off 59 balls, but after missing out in the opening game against England he needed this with competition high in the NZ squad.

  20. How's stat?!published at 10:54 British Summer Time 9 October 2023

It is a surprise that Bas de Leede has come into the attack at this point. Prior to the World Cup, he average around 31 with the ball in the first 10 and last 10 overs of an innings, but over 48 between overs 11 and 40.
