  1. Ind 73-2published at 16 overs

Danni Wyatt gets up a little gingerly after a dive in the deep prevents a boundary. Things have just settled down a bit after an all-action start.

  2. Ind 69-2published at 15 overs

Lauren Filer perks us up after drinks with a lively over that has Jemimah Rodrigues hopping around. One or two chants echo around this largely empty stadium from a few fans supporting the home side.

"Time for drinks," says the umpire.

The worrying thing for me is it's just gone 5am and my tummy is rumbling. It could be a long day.

Do you think Kate Cross enjoyed her wicket-taking delivery to Shafali Verma earlier?

    Lovely.

Filer may be quicker than what we have seen so far but Jemimah Rodrigues eases onto the front foot to play the classiest of straight drives.

Sachin, probably sat not too far away with a cuppa in his Mumbai living room, would be happy with that.

Oh and now Rodrigues does it again to end the over!

Time for a first look at Lauren Filer's extra pace. Kate Cross can have a well-deserved lie down.

  7. Ind 57-2published at 12 overs

    Satheesh 18, Rodrigues 2

Jemimah Rodrigues looks a little nervous here as she pokes and prods in hunt of early runs. I saw Rodrigues play a sensational innings in the Hundred a couple of years back but this is her Test bow.

A good diving stop at the end of Nat Sciver-Brunt's over keeps the pressure on.

  8. Ind 56-2published at 11 overs

Ah. You're making me jealous, Steve. You get less credit given the lack of an early wake-up.

A couple more boundaries come in Kate Cross' sixth over. I reckon that may be her last for a while, judging by the red in her face.

The first bowling change brings Nat Sciver-Brunt into the attack and she begins with a maiden. England's star all-rounder found a bit of movement there too.

That's the powerplay done... oh wait...

  11. Ind 48-2published at 9 overs

Jemimah Rodrigues is the new batter. India have scored a few runs in this first 40 minutes but England looked thrilled with those early strikes. Cross gets a high five from her opening partner Bell at the end of the over.

    Stumps out of the ground!

Is that an absolute seed from Kate Cross or has Shafali Verma played down the wrong line? Either way the India opener has her off stump uprooted in stunning fashion.

On first look I am giving Cross a lot of credit. That looks to have nipped away and hit the top of off.

  14. Ind 46-1published at 8 overs

    Verma 19, Satheesh 9

Edged through the slips! That has gone right through a gap England have left between second and a wide third off the edge of Shubha Satheesh.

Lauren Bell then tests out the middle of the pitch only to see the ball sail over those slips as Shafali Verma plays an extravagant upper cut.

    Great batting.

  15. Ind 37-1published at 7 overs

A couple of beauties from Kate Cross are followed by a crunching back-foot punch from Shafali Verma for another boundary.

A frustrated Cross lets all of her hair free from her bun and looks to the sky.

Australia aren't the only ones rattling along this morning.

The consensus on comms seems to be that ball from Bell was too close for Mandhana to cut. It wasn't a great shot.

Meanwhile, left-hander Satheesh Shubha's first runs in international cricket come from a slashing drive to her second delivery.

If that's a sign of things to come from 24-year-old Shuba, it's going to be a lot of fun.

Gone! Smriti Mandhana has looked to get on with it this morning and that proves to be her downfall.

She attempts a cut to Lauren Bell but has her stumps splattered after an inside edge.

Bell had been wayward previously but is delighted now.

England have a fielder on the drive for Kate Cross but Smriti Mandhana is still keen to drive.

  19. Ind 23-0published at 4 overs

    Mandhana 16, Verma 6

Shafali Verma gets her first boundary now as Lauren Bell drops short and wide. Verma needs little invitation to attack and chops a cut away to the fence.

Smriti Mandhana adds another four later as Kate Cross makes a bit of a meal of a chase to the fence. She attempts to flick the ball back by her boot but it ends up dribbling on anyway.

It has not been the tidiest of starts from England.

  20. Ind 14-0published at 3 overs

This really does look a road - one of the highways heading into Mumbai rather than the bumpy one up in the Himalayas.

Smriti Mandhana gets on the front four again to drive another boundary through the covers.

    Book yourself in.
