Lauren Filer perks us up after drinks with a lively over that has Jemimah Rodrigues hopping around. One or two chants echo around this largely empty stadium from a few fans supporting the home side.

The worrying thing for me is it's just gone 5am and my tummy is rumbling. It could be a long day.

Time for a first look at Lauren Filer's extra pace. Kate Cross can have a well-deserved lie down.

Jemimah Rodrigues looks a little nervous here as she pokes and prods in hunt of early runs. I saw Rodrigues play a sensational innings in the Hundred a couple of years back but this is her Test bow.

A good diving stop at the end of Nat Sciver-Brunt's over keeps the pressure on.

Ah. You're making me jealous, Steve. You get less credit given the lack of an early wake-up.

A couple more boundaries come in Kate Cross' sixth over. I reckon that may be her last for a while, judging by the red in her face.

The first bowling change brings Nat Sciver-Brunt into the attack and she begins with a maiden. England's star all-rounder found a bit of movement there too.

That's the powerplay done... oh wait...

Jemimah Rodrigues is the new batter. India have scored a few runs in this first 40 minutes but England looked thrilled with those early strikes. Cross gets a high five from her opening partner Bell at the end of the over.

A couple of beauties from Kate Cross are followed by a crunching back-foot punch from Shafali Verma for another boundary.

A frustrated Cross lets all of her hair free from her bun and looks to the sky.

The consensus on comms seems to be that ball from Bell was too close for Mandhana to cut. It wasn't a great shot.

Meanwhile, left-hander Satheesh Shubha's first runs in international cricket come from a slashing drive to her second delivery.

If that's a sign of things to come from 24-year-old Shuba, it's going to be a lot of fun.

Smriti Mandhana adds another four later as Kate Cross makes a bit of a meal of a chase to the fence. She attempts to flick the ball back by her boot but it ends up dribbling on anyway.

It has not been the tidiest of starts from England.

This really does look a road - one of the highways heading into Mumbai rather than the bumpy one up in the Himalayas.
