India appear to have learned how to play 'sensible' Bazball. Dread to think what the close of play total will be.

  2. 100 runs

100 for Yashasvi Jaiswalpublished at 39 overs

Not long at all it turns out!

A superb hundred for Yashasvi Jaiswal - his second of the series.

Off comes the helmet in celebration.

  3. Ind 149-1published at 38 overs

    Lead by 275

What I will say is it's a lot easier to bat without scoreboard pressure and against tired bowlers.

Jaiswal is a hit away from a third Test century in seven Tests. How long before that big shot returns?

Jaiswal consistently showing a lot of our lineup how to play attacking cricket and how to do it well. What a talent he is. On the other hand, if it wasn't for Duckett's innings, our first innings would have been very humbling indeed.

  5. Ind 146-1published at 37 overs

    Lead by 272

Here's another bowling change as Mark Wood returns to bowl some bouncers.

Ben Stokes has his fielders all over the place in bizarre positions I'm not sure have a name.

There are basically two fine legs and two third men plus a short leg.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Danny Reuben, England’s media man, who will be searching for someone to face the music at the press conference later. It might be a second call up for fielding coach, Carl ‘Hoppy’ Hopkinson.

  7. Ind 144-1published at 36 overs

    Jaiswal 91, Gill 29

Joe Root is back again, attempting to get the breakthrough.

England have said under Ben Stokes they will chase anything. They're going to be pursuing a lot in this game, I reckon.

  8. drinks break

    Drinks - Ind 142-1published at 35 overs

    This time it is drinks.

There are 16 overs remaining in the day.

Deja vu. Edgbaston second innings, Lord's first innings - two big opportunities in the Ashes that England didn’t take and now here. Against lesser teams you get away with it, not against Australia or India in India.

  10. Ind 140-1published at 34 overs

    Jaiswal was on 35 from 73 balls. He's now 90 from 106.

Of course England’s supporters are cross today. It’s been a chastening day with England hitting the self destruct button. However, this England team can beat this India team if they play intelligent cricket, mindful of the match situation, with a positive mindset. It’s a fine line between positivity and recklessness, and England were well on the wrong side of that today. It will cost them the match.

  12. Ind 138-1published at 33 overs

    Jaiswal 88, Gill 26

This is brilliant, modern, attacking cricket from Yashasvi Jaiswal who gets out two switch hits to crash away two more boundaries of Rehan Ahmed with the pressure off.

"He's playing England at their own game," says Graeme Swann. Quite.

Re: Nick in Romsey: It’s not a fix as such, but a short term solution - put teabags into the fridge whilst you sort it and it counters the musty smell in a warming/turned off fridge - tip from my house removals days (tea solves all ills).

  14. 6 runs

    Ind 130-1published at 32 overs

    Jaiswal 80, Gill 26

Yashasvi Jaiswal was a team-mate of Joe Root's at the IPL last year. He's not sparing him from the punishment.

    Six more on the sweep.

Jaiswal is a wonderful player. Such a great bat swing, he plays with a lovely tempo.

  16. drinks break

    Ind 123-1published at 31 overs

    Lead by 249

No-one seems able to agree whether it's drinks or not. The umpires and the batters are having one. The England players are not.

Ben Stokes holds his arms out a little grumpily.

  17. 6 runs

    Ind 122-1published at 30.1 overs

A third six for Yashasvi Jaisawl in the space of three overs with Rehan Ahmed the target again.

The crowd's cheers will be ringing in the England players ears.

Great batting from this pair. They've batted sensibly and are now realising the bowlers are tired and it’s time to exploit.

  19. Ind 116-1published at 30 overs

    Lead by 242

    Open season, indeed.

Stokes turns back to Joe Root but Jaiswal goes onto the back foot to whips the ball through mid-wicket.

"Sheer class," says Sunil Gavaskar on TV commentary.

To whom does Stokes turn? He suddenly looks very short of options to limit this scoring rate. It’s open season for Jaiswal.
