    So that's it.

Thanks for joining us and enjoy your Sunday evening.

    Breaking

Well, I think it's fair to say we did not see that coming (not just because the pictures went down).

The peloton looked to have left it too late to catch Geraint Thomas but Etixx–Quick-Step rider Boonen came through brilliantly to take the win.

Italian rider Sonny Colbrelli is now leading the way.

We're really struggling with pictures at the moment I'm afraid to say.

  5. Thomas has been caught!published at 18:19 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

Pictures have gone down at just the wrong time but I understand that Geraint Thomas has been caught.

It looks like Ian Stannard has been caught by the peloton.

Geraint Thomas remains out on his own but could he yet be caught?

  7. Chasing pack caughtpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

The peloton have just about caught what remained of the chasing pack and with 8km to go could this end up being closer for Geraint Thomas and Ian Stannard than we thought?

  8. 10km to gopublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

Geraint Thomas remains about 35 seconds clear of Team Sky team-mate Ian Stannard.

The peloton's attack seems to have been stifled somewhat but the two Team Sky men are going to be made to work hard.

  9. Stannard makes a movepublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

Ian Stannard has made a move away from the rest of the chasers.

The peloton are closing in on the chasing pack and Stannard has decided now is the right time to make his move.

The peloton are closing on the chasing pack.

This is where tactics are really going to come into play. At what point do the chasers make a move to try and secure a possible podium place?

Geraint Thomas remains one minute clear of the chasing pack of five but the gap from the peloton has been reduced to just over two minutes.

Sir Dave Brailsford was not discounting someone from the peloton making a real move but if they're going to do it they're going to have to do something soon.

  12. Brilliant event - Brailsfordpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

General manager of Team Sky Dave Brailsford is really enjoying the occasion.

He told BBC Sport: "It's been a great three weeks.

"This is a brilliant event. We've seen so many amateur cyclists and it feels like a great celebration of the sport.

"We felt it was important to have a race between the end of the Tour and Rio and this is the one the riders chose."

He's just said he'd love to take part next year. We'll hold you to that one Dave!

Heading in to the final 25km of this race and Geraint Thomas has a one minute lead over the chasers.

The peloton have made up some ground on that group and we're all set for a very exciting finish.

Me? I'm wishing I'd not left that chocolate bar in the cupboard.

The chasing group behind Geraint Thomas are working so hard but they're not making any ground on the leader.

They must feel like they are banging their heads against a brick wall.

  15. Thomas in the clearpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

I can confirm that Ian Stannard has not started smoking a cigar.

He's just sitting at the back of the five-man chasing group - it is fair to say he doesn't seem too interested in actually chasing.

The Welshman is looking strong as he heads into the final 33km.

  17. 'Superb ride from Thomas'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

    Simon Brotherton

This is a superb ride from the Welshman, one week out from the time trial at the Olympic Games.

He's got a considerable way to go but he has a fair old advantge over those chasing him in the evening sunshine.

  18. Thomas flyingpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

Geraint Thomas is basically just doing a time trial at this stage.

The gap the Team GB rider has opened up in such a small amount of time is terrifying.

With no real climbs of any description left today you've got to fancy the Welshman to take the win.

    43km to go.

Welsh rider Geraint Thomas is now totally on his own.

The Team Sky man is in full flow and looks to be in absolutely top condition.

The rest of the breakaway are going to have to work really hard to pull him back in.

  20. Breakaway on the climbpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 31 July 2016

Geraint Thomas has broken out on his own... Again.

Pat Bevin is having to work really hard to keep up and he looks set to be left behind now.
