Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard: "If someone had said to me that we would go into the last game with a slim chance of winning the league I'd have taken that at the start of the season. But as a footballer you always want more.
"We have been unlucky - we gave it a great shot, but we fell a little bit short. But what do we do? We dust ourselves down and go again.
"It took me until I'm 33 to really experience a proper, genuine title race. This squad is very young, and the experience those lads are going to gain from this rollercoaster is going to be very important. I believe the title is not too far away if we continue to produce performances like we have done this season.
"Before this season the manager gave us the top four as a target - I don't think that'll be his target next season, and it certainly won't be the players'. We've proved this season that we're capable of mixing it with the best and we want another title race, and we want to go one better next year.
"If we add to this team and the squad in the right areas we are capable of challenging. Things have changed here - the supporters know that and the players know that.
"We are genuine title contenders before a ball is kicked next year, and we need to go and prove that we're the top side in the league over 38 games, and not second."
Thanks to a Rickie Lambert elbow in the build-up to Southampton's opener, Nemanja Vidic ended up sporting a bloodied nose on his final Manchester United appearance.
This lad's certainly got something! Will Hughes shows what the hype is all about, getting in front of Stephen Ward, audaciously flicking Craig Forsyth's cross around his standing leg and finding the far corner.
It is early to call this one over, but I'm not sure you can see Brighton getting back into this one. The hosts are buzzing.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino: "We are coming to the end of a five-year project so it's only normal that the hard work starts after tonight's celebrations.
"Tomorrow we will sit down and talk and decide everything, I still have one more season on my contract and we need to sit down with the club to work out how they will implement everything."
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr:, external "It appears that I'm on the pitch with Man City getting the Premier League champions cup and being hugged by Sergio Aguero. So... what's up?"
The makeshift Brighton defence is further knobbled with Lewis Dunk picking up a yellow card that means he will be walking the tightrope for the rest of the match.
Half an hour gone, Derby pressing and probing, their fans jumping and jiving since the first whistle.
Everybody is still out on the pitch taking photos and having a whale of a time. A huge group shot is slightly tarnished by Samir Nasri's other half sitting in front of the trophy. A quick move and it's back on...
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany: "Forget about the money and everything. As a kid, you grow up and dream of lifting trophies, I feel like I am living that dream when I do this.
"We are building a club. Not just a team that wins trophies every now and again. Next year we need to be even better. If you want to be a big club then this must be one of so many."
Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood on his future: "I need to speak to the chairman, we know what we have done. It was obviously me, Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand who stepped up from the development team and overall we are happy with what we have done, we are not sure we could have done much more.
"It would be nice to get it clarified, we have looked at pre-season a little bit and we need to get to work on those [transfer] targets. Someone else might have a different opinion."
Bad news for Brighton as Gordon Greer limps out with a hamstring strain. The Gulls have already without Matthew Upson at the back and have to patch up with Adam Chickson coming on off the bench for Greer.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "Big teams cannot be satisfied with one title. It's very important. Celebrate, today, tomorrow and Monday and on Tuesday start working for next season because this club and players deserve more titles."
Jeff Hendrick looks aghast as referee Craig Pawson pulls yellow from his top pocket, but it was well deserved for a studs-up spiteful one from the Derby midfielder on Rohan Ince.
Derby still enjoying the best of the play with full-back Craig Forsyth cracking a low shot wide as the ball ran invitingly to him on the edge of the box.
Chief football writer Phil McNulty at Etihad Stadium
"Manuel Pellegrini received a rapturous reception as he led his Manchester City players out to receive the Premier League trophy. As the banner says in reference to that famous song by The Smiths, "This Charming Man" has shown substance to add to his style and now has a Premier League title to his name."
Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta: "This is fantastic. Everyone - players, staff, fans, every single person who works for this club - is trying to make the club bigger. We know the way to do it is a strong mentality and I think the players deserve it.
"It is the manager's first season in the Premier League and he won it. We know how special the Premier League is. We need to be proud because we know the owners were spending big over the last few years to make it happen so it's time to enjoy, but we are hungry to bring more success to this club."

Manchester City assistant Brian Kidd: "This season has been unbelievable, what the manager has done. Two trophies in his first season and I'm delighted for him, as well as all the staff. You always get the unexpected in the Premier League - that's not uncommon."
Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood on inviting a fan into the dugout: "This guy sits up there every week, shouting 'Get him off Tim, get him on Tim'. He is the proper manager, so it was his chance to have a go. He's nicked my gilet too! Football is all about the fans. It's only friendly banter and we should have more in the game."
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "I think that I manage a great group of players, a great institution and great fans.
"I must be calm during the game to take decisions but when you achieve the title, I think the whole year comes from in to out and shows a lot of work we did at difficult moments in the year and I think this is the best team in the league.
"It was a very special season for us, we didn't start very well but I think the most important thing we did this year is when we finished playing our sixth game away, we had one point from 18 and I told the players we had to make a change. They believed in me and I think from then until now we are the team with the most points away.
"They always believed what I told them about how I wanted to play and how I think football should be."
Fernandinho in a jester's hat and swathed in a Brazil flag, dancing to 'This Charming Man' by the Smiths.
A surreal sight.
Tom, Manchester: Pellegrini was told five trophies in five years. Two down, four years left. The players would never have lifted Mancini above their heads! What a change he has made, brilliant man, spectacular manager!
