  1. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21:16 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Ryan Giggs, evoking memories of years gone by, jinks into the box and his low shot hits Alex Bruce on the hand. Penalty? The referee says no but the Manchester United interim manager is sure it should have been a spot-kick. I'm inclined to agree.

Juelz:, external James Wilson is just a natural goalscorer. Mourinho take note.

NENE:, external Tomorrow the British press will be hailing James Wilson as the next Rooney after just one match.

Real Stealth:, external Great debut from Wilson with 2 goals but people get carried away far too easily, lets just see how he develops, he's only 18.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Here comes Ryan Giggs for his 963rd appearance in a Manchester United shirt. But will it be his final one? He replaces debutant Tom Lawrence. Giggs, incidentally, had won two titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup before tonight's two-goal hero James Wilson was born.

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Old Trafford: "A flurry of goals and a substitution that denies Wilson a special place in United's history books. Only two players have scored a hat-trick on their debut for the club; Charles Sagar against Bristol City in 1905 and Wayne Rooney against Fenerbahce in 2004. Wilson's contribution will remain at two, which is two more than Marouane Fellaini."

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

There will be no debut hat-trick for James Wilson, with the teenage striker brought off and replaced by Robin van Persie. Shortly afterwards, Ryan Giggs begins to warm up to cheers from the stands.

"Great strike from the substitute Matty Fryatt. David de Gea had no chance with a shot through a pack of bodies. Hull are back in it here. Earlier, Adnan Januzaj makes a great run forward and Marouane Fellaini should score. What a debut for James Wilson. Two goals on his debut, brilliant."

  8. GOALpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

What a hit! Matty Fryatt hauls Hull back into the contest almost immediately with a stunning 25-yard effort which flies past David De Gea.

  9. GOALpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

He can't do anything wrong! Teenage debutant James Wilson bags his second of the night with a simple tap-in. Adnan Januzaj is the creator with a silky run down the right and the winger squares for the luckless Marouane Fellaini who finds the keeper from 10 yards out and Wilson tucks in the rebound like all good strikers should. Maybe Fellaini can console himself with an assist?

Manchester United are building up a little head of steam now as they bring their wingers into play and stand up a cross to the back stick which is just nipped off the head of Marouane Fellaini in the nick of time.

"United lack that bit of a spark but every time Adnan Januzaj gets on the ball he does seem to create something for United."

Jaap Stam signs for Manchester UnitedImage source, PA

As Nemanja Vidic makes his farewell Old Trafford appearance, we asked your thoughts on who is Manchester United's best ever central defender?

Sean:, external Manchester United's best central defender? Jaap Stam without a shadow of a doubt.

Matthew Farnham:, external No doubt big Jaap Stam was by far the finest - a wall of a man to get around - that United have had.

More exciting wing-play from Adnan Januzaj sees the Belgian skip away from Curtis Davies before being stopped in his tracks by David Meyler's superbly-timed challenge in the penalty area. Being on a yellow card, he had to get that one right.

Ryan Giggs chats away to Nicky Butt on his left and then leans forward to have a word in the ear of Phil Neville. "I'm going to warm up in a minute lads," he possibly said.

Adnan Januzaj is proving to be a real handful this evening and when he finds himself in a central area with a sight of goal, he puts his foot through the ball and brings a decent save out of Hull keeper Eldin Jakupovic.

Are we having a sweep as to what time Ryan Giggs introduces himself to the action? I reckon 72 minutes...

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Manchester United pick up where they left off, with Tom Lawrence driving at the heart of the Hull defence and being hauled back by David Meyler. The Hull midfielder is booked and, from the resulting free-kick, the ball is eventually worked in the direction of James Wilson who tries an audacious overhead kick but the ball trickles wide.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 6 May 2014
