How can one man be sent off against the same team so many times? A superb servant for Manchester United though.

Jordan Bradford:, external Vidic WAS great, though I will remember him for abysmal games against Torres and his record 4 red cards against Liverpool.

Richard:, external Here comes the Serbian tank!!

Ben Johnson:, external Vidic's last ever game at Old Trafford and it looks half empty. Bit embarrassing.

Phil Jones is indeed withdrawn and it means an earlier than expected Old Trafford farewell appearance for Nemanja Vidic. The stadium rises as one to applaud the giant defender onto the pitch for one final time.

Oh dear, it doesn't look good for Phil Jones who looks to have injured his shoulder in that collision with Maynor Figueroa and the strapping centre-half heads straight down the tunnel in obvious pain. Remember, Roy Hodgson names his squad for the World Cup on Monday.

After a period of pass, pass, pass, Manchester United burst into life when debutant Tom Lawrence picks up the ball 30 yards from goal and drives forward before unleashing a powerful shot which takes a wicked deflection and is turned behind for a corner. From the corner, play is stopped when Phil Jones and Maynor Figueroa suffer a heavy collision.

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Old Trafford: "Steve Bruce standing very close to the spot where Brian Kidd and Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his injury-time header against Sheffield Wednesday in 1993 that proved so pivotal in that first championship triumph in 26 years.

"United have never finished lower than third since then - until this season of course. If Louis van Gaal is to be given the task of succeeding David Moyes, he will be expected to bring those good times back pretty quickly."

"Hull will want to play Arsenal in the FA Cup final at the end of the season after two good performances in the league. They will want to be in good form."

Hull, in their blue away kit with red socks, are passing the ball about well in their own half but are struggling to create too much in the final third. Despite making so many changes though, their philosophy still shines through - they are here to play football.

Maybe you've hit on something there Rob [see text below]. Maybe Louis van Gaal is a red herring and Brucey's the man to take over from David Moyes?

Matt Barron, external: Absolute stonewall penalty there for United not given. Incredible.

Brad Arnett, external: Didn't think I'd be describing Januzaj as the experience in attack any time soon.

Rob Wilson, external: Bruce in a suit? Has he been to a job interview?

Already, Adnan Januzaj is imposing himself on the game down the right-hand side. Those changes made by Ryan Giggs do appear to have freshened up the Reds, however there's nothing pleasing about Shinji Kagawa's effort from 25 yards which sails over the bar.

"I thought he was a little bit rash. Maynor Figueroa has to make sure he gets the ball and I'm not sure he does. I think Hull have had a little bit of a break."

  14. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 19:50 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Penalty? No! It probably should have been as Adnan Januzaj bursts past Maynor Figueroa and towards the byline but is brought down by the Hull full-back. Referee Craig Pawson might have made a mistake with that one. It looked pretty clear-cut.

A bright start from Manchester United as Adnan Januzaj, out on the right, whips in a cross to the back stick, Marouane Fellaini heads it down and James Wilson is denied a shot on goal by Alex Bruce's last-ditch tackle.

"It is interesting tonight. They have gone with an inexperienced side. I am looking forward to seeing Tom Lawrence and James Wilson. You know Louis van Gaal will have one eye on the game tonight."

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Old Trafford: "Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Danny Welbeck amongst those who stand in praise of Nemanja Vidic, who was presented with a momento of his time at United by Sir Bobby Charlton.

"The United fans sing their song in tribute to Vidic. Get the sense it is end of an era in many ways - some empty seats though."

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Ryan Giggs makes his way to the dug-out alongside Steve Bruce, a red shirt poking out from under the Welshman's tracksuit. A hint of things to come? Nothing like that from Brucey though, he's immaculately dressed in a grey suit. Anyway enough of that... let's play!

So who are the two United debutants then?

Tom Lawrence makes his first appearance for Manchester United this evening having previously enjoyed spells in League One with Carlisle and in the Championship with Yeovil.

The Wrexham-born 20-year-old has been at Old Trafford since the age of eight, progressing through the age groups in the Reds Devils' academy. Sound familiar?

Forward Lawrence scored three goals in six appearances during a loan spell at Carlisle in December and scored twice in 17 appearances for Yeovil but was unable to stop the Glovers from being relegated.

Striker James Wilson, 18, makes his debut in senior football having impressed for United's Under-21s. He scored on his U18 debut while still only 15 and was scouted when he was just seven.
