Graeme Hunter:, external You'll never win anything with kids, Giggsy... good luck to Lawrence and Wilson tonight.

Ollie PC:, external Very excited for Wilson. At his best when running with the ball, and a clinical finisher to boot. Star of the future, no doubt.

It all means Ryan Giggs could make his final appearance as a player at Old Trafford this evening. He's named himself on the bench tonight and earlier this week proclaimed: "The perfect scenario would be me coming on and scoring but football doesn't work like that."

It tends to if you're Ryan Giggs!

I am, of course, talking about Ryan Giggs. The most decorated player in the history of English football certainly has a CV to rival any of the game's greats.

Now 40, however, he's spending more time coaching and less time playing first-team football, meaning matters could come to a natural conclusion this summer when a permanent successor to David Moyes is appointed.

    Who am I talking about?

I've won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, one World Club Cup, four FA Cup, four League Cups, one PFA Player of the Year award, one BBC Sports Personality of the Year award and I was named in the PFA team of the century...

John in London on text: Big clearout of all the under performing players of this season needed. They let down the club and Moyes as well as themselves.

Andrew in Belfast: As much as I agree that the likes of Evra, Ferdinand, Young, Nani and Cleverley have not been up to a Manchester United standard, I don't feel that the club should look to get rid of them in one fell swoop. They should try to stagger the removal of those players from the squad over a couple of transfer windows to minimise the negative impacts of dismantling a side. Look what happened to Spurs after they bought half a team last summer.

Troy from Kent: Cleverly, Young, Fellaini and Buttner have to go. They are not good enough to take Manchester Utd to the high level expected of them next season.

A very interesting team selection from Manchester United then. Has anybody seen much of James Wilson or Tom Lawrence? Any good? Let us know via the usual channels.

  8. BREAKING TEAM NEWSpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Manchester United give debuts to young forwards James Wilson and Tom Lawrence, with Ryan Giggs and Nemanja Vidic on the bench. Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are not included in the matchday squad.

Man Utd starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Buttner, Carrick, Fellaini, Kagawa, Januzaj, Lawrence, Wilson.

Hull make five changes, with Jakupovic, Bruce, Boyd, Koren and Quinn replacing Harper, Livermore, Huddlestone, Chester and Jelavic.

  9. Man City face £50m finepublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

It's also been an interesting 24 hours for title favourites Manchester City, with Liverpool's draw at Crystal Palace being tempered by news they are facing a fine in the region of £50m, a restriction on their Champions League squad size and a wage limit for breaching Uefa's financial fair play rules. Is that fair or are the governing body being heavy-handed?

One thing's for sure, even City's owners would struggle to find £50m down the back of the sofa. It's a massive fine.

Has everyone recovered from last night's drama yet? I suspect there were differing emotions at work today for Crystal Palace and Liverpool fans following that 3-3 draw at Selhurst Park. After throwing away a three-goal lead in the last 10 minutes, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers says his side's title dreams are over while Dietmar Hamann has accused his former club of "naivety" in letting slip such a commanding position.

Perhaps the strangest story to come out of it all is news of an apology from Tottenham after a video mocking Liverpool's collapse in the title race appeared on their Twitter account. The club are now investigating how it happened.

Things will become clearer in the next few weeks, but it's being reported that Louis van Gaal is being lined up to take over as the club's next manager while Nemanja Vidic has already signed a contract to join Inter Milan this summer.

The future also looks increasingly uncertain for Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Young, Nani and, as mentioned earlier, Ryan Giggs. The winds of change are sweeping through the corridors of Old Trafford, but will they breath fresh life into a club which has endured its worst season in recent memory? It could be an emotional night at Old Trafford.

  14. Postpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Yep, the next time Manchester United walk out at Old Trafford they could be almost unrecognisable from the team which will face Hull City in their final home game of the season tonight. It's likely they'll have a new manager in place, possibly a new back four and maybe some big-money midfielders. Who knows? They might even splash out for a new strike partner for Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie this summer?

  15. Goodbye Ryan?published at 15:48 British Summer Time 6 May 2014

Walk into any organisation in the world, and there's generally somebody who seems to have been there since Day Dot. Or shortly after.

At Manchester United it's Ryan Giggs: discovered by a local milkman aged eight, put in charge of pumping up footballs as an apprentice, part of an all-conquering once-in-a-generation youth team as a teenager, and the most decorated player of his generation. Throw in stints as captain, assistant coach and caretaker manager and it's quickly apparent there are not too many roles which Giggs hasn't fulfilled at Old Trafford. I bet he even brews up every now and again.

But tonight Old Trafford is preparing to potentially say goodbye to Ryan Giggs the player, as Ryan Giggs the manager looks to spread his wings. In more ways than one, it's out with the old and in with the new at the Theatre of Dreams...
