"Sakho had a clear header from about eight yards max, and he has missed by three yards - awful, just awful."

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Oooh, Glen Johnson goes down in the Crystal Palace area close to Yannick Bolasie's wild hack at the ball but, luckily for the hosts, the referee is not interested. Liverpool win a corner, however, and an unmarked Mamadou Sakho rises highest but plants his free header wide from eight yards. Must. Hit. The. Target. Mamadou.

    Steve Claridge
    BBC Sport at Selhurst Park

"I came here earlier in the season, and Palace's players now look bigger and stronger, its almost like they have been transformed. They look like completely different players."

  4. Postpublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Excellent from Steven Gerrard as he nicks the ball from Joel Ward and sets Liverpool flying forward in a move which ends with Luis Suarez's ball across the box being hacked clear by Joe Ledley.

  5. Postpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

A frenetic start from both sides, who are trying to impress their style on the game early on. Liverpool do get an early sight of goal, but Scott Dann is back in the nick of time to snuff out the danger.

Andy via text: My mate landed from Hong Kong yesterday to watch the remaining Liverpool games and hope to see his beloved Liverpool lifting the trophy in 24 years. Hope it all goes well for him or this could be a long long way home.

Jay in Bangor, via text: As much as I keep hoping & dreaming we'll win it last week's defeat will prove to be too damaging. 2 things also go against us: Pulis has never lost a home game versus Liverpool and our Monday night record is appalling!

  7. Postpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Optajoe:, external 5 - Liverpool have failed to score in five of their last eight Premier League games played in May. Hayfever.

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Apparently, Liverpool supporters from all around the world are inside Selhurst Park, probably hoping when they bought the tickets that this would be THE night. Not so. We're under way...

Brendan Rodgers - he of the suit - and Tony Pulis - he of the tracksuit and baseball cap - stride out alongside each other, mutual respect for the superb job they have done at their respective club. Now it's time to try and get one over on the other though.

  10. Postpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Chief football writer Phil McNulty at Selhurst Park

"Tony Pulis was used to the backing of a hostile home support at The Britannia Stadium when he was in charge at Stoke City - and he has similar support here at Selhurst Park with a giant banner unfurled by Crystal Palace fans emblazoned with the word 'Fortress'."

  11. Postpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

The players are greeted by a wall of colour - Palace fans holding up a banner declaring 'Welcome to Fortress Selhurst' and belting out 'Glad all over'.

Here we go then. Both sets of players meet in a very narrow Selhurst Park corridor - the type where you have no choice but to acknowledge the bloke from the opposition who is practically touching shoulders with you. The crowd is whipping into a frenzy too.

  13. FA Youth Cup finalpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Chelsea lost in the final of the FA Youth Cup last year and it is looking increasingly likely that they are going to miss out on the trophy again as Fulham take the lead inside five minutes. A deep cross finds Fulham starlet Moussa Dembele at the far post, he stoops in to head home and the Cottagers lead 4-2 on aggregate.

On Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "We talk about him being the Special One, but I think he's got to look at himself. When they have to win games, they play with no width. Since Drogba's gone from that lone striker role, it's not about not having the quality, it's about having the player that can play in that defined role. That one striker has to link up, be involved in the build-up, you are not guaranteed to get on the end of everything. It's the manager who has identified players and asked them to perform a role that they can't play in."

It's a sell-out at Selhurst Park tonight, where the club's eagle mascot is being readied for one final swoop down from the stands this term. I don't think I've watched a Palace game yet this season where I have not found myself subconsciously tapping my feet to the beat generated by the vociferous home support. They truly are a credit.

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis, speaking to Sky Sports: "For us to finish our final home game of the season knowing that we are still in the Premier League is fantastic for everyone but we are desperate to get a result and finish what has been a great season with a win.

"Sturridge has come back in and we expected that so it's just whether our lads can handle them. It's going to be tough but if we can get the ball out wide we will get forward and we know we can create chances."

  18. Postpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Opta Joe:, external 6 - Liverpool were the last team to score 6+ goals against Palace in a league game at Selhurst Park (Aug 1994). Memories.

  19. Postpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

    BBC Radio 5 live

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish: "If we achieve this again next season, it will be fantastic but maybe it would be nice to have a squad that can have a run in a cup. It's important in football that you try to go for glory, but priority number one is to stay in the Premier League. We're not getting carried away, there are 20 teams that want to stay in this league, three that drop out which is quite a high proportion, and you have to make sure you're not one of them."

  20. Postpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

    BBC Radio 5 live

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton, speaking about Liverpool's season: "With the way the season has gone, you would not be surprised if there is one more twist. If City slip up, Liverpool have to be there ready and waiting to pounce on that.

"It has been 24 long years since Liverpool last won the title, and for football in general we all love to see another team come through trying to compete and win it."
