Ben, Gillingham: If Rooney scores and we win all the questions will be why he never started there against Italy. Just want some pride regardless of result tonight.

Tony: I'm having English new potatoes for my dinner with an English meat pasty. I've lined up the potatoes in a 4-3-3 formation although I've just eaten one of them. I hope that isn't a portent of a sending off.

"A lot of nervous energy will have been used in the opening game and I do just worry if they will have been able to recover in time.

"But the players will be totally focussed on their own job. Most importantly you say let's not go home disappointed, lets give it everything we have got. Sometimes you get beaten by a better team, it happens, but if you give it your all on the pitch you can leave with your head held high."

    England manager

Speaking to ITV: "Raheem will go wide and Wayne will go central. We were more concerned about Andrea Pirlo in the first game and thought Raheem was the man to do that job. It's a different game so we've moved Wayne back into the middle but those three players are very interchangeable and we'll see that.

"The higher the stakes the more it comes into focus but in all matches you need to balance attack and defence.

"You have to trust in the players' ability, experience, belief in themselves and the way we play and I'm sure they've got that faith and belief. You can never totally predict the outcome of a football match but you can predict your team are in the right shape to play the game."

"Gary Neville will be going around geeing people up and giving out instructions. For the young players it's great, he can pass his experience down and he is respected in that dressing room so it's great.

"It's quite an inexperienced back four in terms of international games so for me the holding role in midfield is important. Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson, if they do their jobs well that gives the front four to attack as freely as they can. Maybe the guy in the number 10 role also needs to drop back because I do think you need a three in midfield, many teams play with three and you need to combat that."

    Rio Ferdinand

"Wayne Rooney will have read and listened to all the criticism this week and will have used that as fuel because he wants to be the best.

"If James Milner had played on the left and got an assist and finished with top running stats, he would have got a seven or an eight out of 10. But because it's Wayne, people are expecting miracles from him almost, even in what was an alien position for him, that's why I'm frustrated.

"People are always looking for that person to hang everything on, that's what it seems like every time England come to a tournament."

Raheem Sterling is the only England man on a booking tonight. A yellow card would mean that he would miss out against Costa Rica.

Here come England's outfield players - I must say they look very relaxed. It's a bit misty in Sao Paulo.
