"You play to your strengths, and our strength are in the attacking potions, the defence is suspect at times. If you set your stall out to defend you will pay the price, the best form of defence for this team is attack and I hope they carry on as they did against Italy."

Earlier we asked for your predictions on England v Uruguay. You voted in your thousands and 57% of you feel Roy Hodgson's men will win. 23% said draw and 20% lose.

There is a lot of confidence out there it seems. 43 minutes to kick-off. Let's see if you are right.

"I'm happy with the selection. there were positives from the first game, Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck were bright, today I am more concerned about Wayne Rooney, hopefully he will play as a number nine or 10.

"I went to the hotel the other day and James Milner has become a bit of a voice in the changing room, when I was there even though he was young Joe Hart was vocal.

"Then there is Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, the experienced lads going around making the younger lads comfortable and telling them not to be scared, to treat this game as any other game for your club, take it by the scruff of the neck and take the ball to the opposition."

"The three Spanish officials worry me a little bit. Uruguay are Spanish-speaking, they speak the same language - will their players try to influence the referee? Temperament is the key for England - don't get involved with antics of Uruguay players. They will try to wind us up, particularly Wayne Rooney. But I think England can win - I'm going for 2-1.

"The whole country would be happy if Wayne Rooney played more centrally. The concern in the first game was England's most productive player in the qualifiers played in his third best position on the left. He wanted to produce but play him in his best position."

Paddy Emmerson:, external Wrong set up tonight, we will get outnumbered in midfield and our back 4 will be exposed. More naive selection from Hodgson.

  9. Use Your Weapons wiselypublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 19 June 2014

"We're not going to put any of our weapons down. Any weapon we've got we are going to try to use."

Roy Hodgson was in fighting mood the other day when previewing today's game. He insists that England will be going for it from the off when we kick-off in just under an hour.

The 67-year-old added: "Against Italy we just set out to play the game we thought we wanted to play. We didn't say 'right, today we're going all-out attack'.

"We certainly won't be saying on Thursday 'we're going all-out defence', but it is very important at this level that you get both aspects right - that when we get the ball we use it, and we use the players we've got who can hurt the opposition."

    Former England defender Phil Neville

"The full-backs tonight have a big responsibility. They didn't cope against Italy and Uruguay have got Cristian Rodriguez and Edinson Cavani. Rodriguez is quick and strong, Cavani makes runs behind the centre-backs so they have got to stick to them.

"I can't see Luis Suarez being match-fit. Uruguay were losing against Costa Rica and still didn't bring him on so that tells you about the state of his fitness. I've had knee operations and it is usually a six-week recovery - I hope that works in England's favour."

Edinson Cavani is almost exactly the opposite type of son-in-law than I am then...

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "The Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez has described striker Edinson Cavani as "the perfect son-in-law", because he will do anything you want him to. He works so hard, he's almost like a box-to-box striker.

"He will most likely take the strain and work on getting the supply to Luis Suarez, who will be allowed to just play on the shoulder."
