Pramod:, external Am I too selfish for wishing the Dutch to crash out so that Robin van Persie can get his rest and Louis van Gaal can start planning Manchester United's season?

The Dutch have raised their game now. Again Dirk Kuyt is the spare man, again he finds a quality ball but Robin van Persie had just strayed offside.

There were four men in Oranje bursting into the box there though. That's what you need to break a side down.

We don't give enough goalkeepers animal-based nicknames do we? Let's start doing that in the new season.

    Bryan Ruiz

Bryan Ruiz is known as 'the weasel' in his homeland. Marvellous.

    Wesley Sneijder

"Robin van Persie should have scored but it's a good save by Keylor Navas, he just came off his line to narrow the angle. Great awareness though from Wesley Sneijder to find Van Persie with a disguised pass."

"Brilliant move, brilliant save. Best moment of the match. The goalkeeper is off his line so fast to deny Van Persie."

    Robin van Persie

Great save! The best moment of the match so far. Dirk Kuyt in space on the right, gets his head up and plays an excellent pass back to Wesley Sneijder in the D.

He flips a first-time pass around the corner to Robin van Persie, he's in, but that man Keylor Navas makes another fine save. Sneijder's follow-up is meat and drink for the keeper they call 'The Falcon.'

Peter Humfrey:, external After three rather disappointing quarter-finals, fingers crossed the Oranje and Los Ticos can raise the roof.

Michael Jones:, external The four great football powers of South America and Europe will be left by the end of the day.

Lovely feet from Joel Campbell, as he cuts inside from the right and then plays a great reverse pass out to the overlapping Cristian Gamboa. The right-back looks up, only has one man to pick out and nearly does, until Ron Vlaar slides in to hack it clear.

Promising stuff from the men in white...

Costa Rica have taken the sting out of the game. The tempo has dropped away and the Ticos are seeing more and more of the ball.

"Netherlands haven't been afraid to go long in this tournament, that's what Louis van Gaal has said to do and already we have seen the two centre-backs play it up to Robin van Persie from deep.

"Costa Rica have made a slight change in that Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell have switched position. Campbell has gone to the right-flank, where it looks like he might have the beating of Daley Blind."

Costa Rica make a tweak, pushing Joel Campbell out to the right to use his pace in defence and stop the Dutch attacks down that side. Bryan Ruiz, the Central American Berbatov, trudges over to the centre.

"Give me the ball when we get it boys, I'll be the one nearest the goal..."

Memphis Depay attacks down the Dutch left and is stopped in his tracks by an excellent sliding tackle. Depay has scored twice in the tournament after coming on as a replacement and is keen to make his first start count.

Brazil forward Neymar says his dream of being a world champion is not over, despite being ruled out for the rest of the World Cup because of a back injury.

The 22-year-old fractured a vertebra in his spine after being kneed in the back by Juan Zuniga during Brazil's 2-1 quarter-final victory over Colombia.

The Barcelona player said his dream was "interrupted... but it continues". He added: "I'm certain my team-mates will do everything so my dream, which is to be a champion, comes true.

"I am sure they will win this Cup and be champions, and I will be with them, and all Brazilians will soon be celebrating all of that."

    Arjen Robben

77% possession for the men in Oranje in the opening exchanges. Arjen Robben looks the man most likely to so far, popping up on the right and driving in with real intent, but the Dutch haven't fired in any shots as yet.

"That is a warning sign for Costa Rica, pace and power going forward, that is what Netherlands have got.

"I have watched Jasper Cillessen the Dutch goalkeeper a few times. It looks like he struggles on crosses, he doesn't look convincing and although Netherlands have a strong defence in front of him, they always seem to be looking over their shoulder."

  18. Postpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

As expected, Costa Rica have found the opening minutes tough. It's all hands on deck at times as the Dutch keep the ball well but Keylor Navas has had no scares yet in the Costa Rica goal.

    Louis van Gaal

The tinkerman Louis van Gaal has lined up with Daley Blind on the left of a 3-4-3. We were expecting him to play in central midfield but this side change their mind every 15 minutes or so.

Dirk Kuyt is on the right for now.
