Stuart Pearce got his tenure as Nottingham Forest manager off to the perfect start with victory over Blackpool on Saturday but may find a tougher test against a Tranmere side celebrating the start of a new era.

Former Football Association chief executive Mark Palios and his wife Nicola became the new owners of the League Two side earlier this week, and it could give the players and fans that little boost to cause a cup upset.

David Hockaday will be hoping to pick up his first win as Leeds boss as the Championship side take on Accrington Stanley.

After losing at Millwall in their league opener on Saturday, Hockaday will no doubt be keen to provide the Leeds fans with a convincing performance, and not what would be a shock upset against a League Two side.

Good news for Blackpool - they have named six of the possible seven subs tonight and have also completed two signings: Jeffrey Rentmeister and Joel Dielna have both joined the club on one-year deals.

Jeffrey Rentmeister is the best name this season. He's my new favourite player.

Alexis Ozil:, external Aaron Ramsey. I can see him joining Madrid for 90 million pounds in two years.

William 17:, external Luke Shaw although I think he'll stay at United all his career.

Surely Luke Shaw's had the biggest move of his career already?

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "Louis van Gaal's first Old Trafford programme notes stress the importance of continued improvement and pleasing the supporters. To that end, the announcement of the following starting XI seemed to curry favour...

"De Gea, Jones, Mata, Rooney, Smalling, Hernandez, Young, Herrera, Fletcher, James, Blackett.

"The Dutchman also added: 'I have managed in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, so there was only one football country I wanted to see inside and that was England because of the level of the Premier League and the atmosphere. I cannot wait to get started.'"

We've all been there. You've got a 5-a-side game in midweek but Gaz has cryed off 'injured', Dave is not allowed out after a row with his missus, Steve doesn't fancy it in the rain and Pete's car is in for a service.

You're four men short and have to go through your phonebook hoping to find someone available. All standards catered for.

Blackpool boss Jose Riga is in the same boat tonight, as after being able to name just four substitutes in their Championship opener at the weekend, Riga's boys travel to Shrewsbury in the League Cup tonight hoping at the very least to be able to fill the bench.

It has been a summer of turmoil at the Seasiders and just two weeks ago they had only eight players registered but Riga has been busy recruiting and could have just enough for a full squad against the Shrews.

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "There is a palpable sense of excitement in the environs of Old Trafford this evening. Louis van Gaal scarves and those split between the colours of Manchester United and the Netherlands are selling briskly ahead of the new manager's first home game.

"Then, when the Dutchman strolled out on to the pitch 35 minutes before kick-off - shoulders back, chin out, stomach held in - those already inside the ground rose to acclaim him. Already, the crackle has returned to this grand old stadium."

Any Liverpool fans hoping to scout a possible new left-back tonight have been disappointed then - Alberto Moreno will not play this evening as he ties up his move to Merseyside.

BBC Sport's Ben Smith reports: "Liverpool have agreed a £12m fee with Sevilla for Spanish left back Alberto Moreno.

"The 22-year-old has been withdrawn from tonight's Uefa Super Cup and is expected on Merseyside for a medical later in the week. Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has spent the day in Cardiff finalising the deal and will be a guest of Sevilla at tonight's game."

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne: "We've been here once before - the club that got shifted 60 miles up the country taking on the club that rose out of the carnage. The circus has not been as rowdy as the first time MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon met nearly two years ago in the FA Cup.

"But the venom still exists, particularly from the Wimbledon side, making this a stand-out League Cup tie.

"MK boss Karl Robinson has played the game down, insisting any of his side's 46 league games are more important. Wimbledon fans would beg to differ - the events of the last 11 years still sit freshly in their minds."

There are games that could throw up a couple of upsets in the Capital One Cup first round tonight.

Bolton's home game against Bury has the potential to be a mouth-watering clash, especially for fans up in the north west of England. Just six miles separate the two teams, possibly making it the closest derby on tonight's fixture list, and they always have the potential for a surprise result.

Elsewhere Luton, back in the Football League this season, host Swindon while Huddersfield, who sacked manager Mark Robins one game into the season on Sunday, travel to Chesterfield.

    Real Madrid possible XI

You could probably buy most of the 64 Football League sides in action tonight for £400m. That's a lot of cash.

It's also the approximate cost of Real Madrid's most expensive XI this season, with the new addition of James Rodriguez taking the front four alone to £255m.

Nine of that potential team start tonight.

How does Carlo Ancelotti begin to try to keep all of his stars happy? It's a nice problem to have.

Spanish football writer Andy West says: "In a dressing room packed with more than half a billion pounds worth of talent, maintaining a spirit of unity - both on and off the pitch - could be the key to the team's success.

"If Ancelotti gets it right and keeps everyone pulling in the same direction, they could be unstoppable."

    Quite.

  18. Team Newspublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 12 August 2014

Let's be honest - this isn't a bad XI. It would certainly give Cardiff a run for their money.

New boys James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos both start for Real Madrid, as do Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid: Casillas, Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao, Kroos, Modric, Rodriguez, Ronaldo, Bale; Benzema.

Sevilla: Beto, Fazio, Navarro, Pareja, Coke, Krychowiak, Carrico, Suarez, Vitolo, Parreu, Bacca.
