As a manager, Harry Redknapp has faced Manchester United 15 times at Old Trafford in the Premier League (West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, and QPR) and has yet to get a point.
Player reaction
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, speaking to BBC Sport: "We are happy. It is our first game winning. I think we have been comfortable on the pitch. We kept the ball, we had a lot of chances and we let them make few chances. We are happy with this step but of course we have to improve. If we want to win trophies we have to improve still.
"The new players are top players, Di Maria, Falcao, Rojo, Blind, Shaw. We are looking forward to this season. This is our first step but it was important to win the game, we have a long week of work and if we win we have confidence."
Manager reaction
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "Angel Di Maria has cramp. He should be ok. That is a good sign, it shows that he has given everything. When you make and score the first goal for yourself you cannot have played badly, but he gives the ball away unnecessarily sometimes.
"There are things we can improve upon, even Di Maria.
"I have been employed for more than 25 years and my teams are always focused on attack, but it is not our focus. The focus is to be in the first three so that we can qualify for the Champions League. The most important thing is the trajectory.
"We have to play in a certain style and we have to improve our qualifications and I hope that at the end of the this year to be manager of the champions of England, if not this, then in the second or third year."

Andy, Royton: The big teams will score against Man United, no doubt about that. Can United score more than they'll concede? Six goals in five games against QPR, MK Dons, Burnley and Swansea would suggest not. Work to be done, let's not get carried away!

Monday night club
The last game of the weekend comes up tomorrow night as Hull face West Ham.
Steve Bruce - linked with replacing Alan Pardew at Newcastle over the weekend - has nearly as many new players at his disposal as Louis van Gaal. Hull could well be the new entertainers in town too, they have Hatem Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez in the mix now of course.

Barry Healy: It was a very good display. If that's how they line up and play for the rest of the season, we will be in for some great games.
Kieran Evans: United played QPR. I think everyone's forgetting the MK Dons game..?
Ollie Tissington: QPR didn't play well to be fair, and the gaps in Manchester's defence at times were bad. If they played a team like Man City or Chelsea they would get destroyed.
Manager reaction
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
QPR manager Harry Redknapp talking to the BBC:
"A few minutes before half time we were 1-0 down and still bang in the game. To come in at 3-0 down, when our keeper has not had a shot to save..... If you have ever played in a team 3-0 down at half time it is very difficult. You have to make sure you don't get beat by six or seven.
"A difficult day, I expected it and we got one.
"Leroy Fer is not fit, Sandro got a bit of cramp where he's not played many games. I still feel confident we will be ok."

Stoke, Southampton, West Ham, Liverpool and Aston Villa. That's the next five games for QPR as they try and stay out of the bottom three in the Premier League. Harry Redknapp is confident they will survive.
Manager reaction
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
QPR manager Harry Redknapp: "To be honest we came in and found ourselves 1-0 with five minutes until half-time. I thought if we came in at half time at 1-0 we'd be still in the game but we gave away two goals and came in at 3-0 despite Rob Green barely having a save to make.
"You know it is going to be tough at 3-0. You don't want to get beat six or seven and it be demoralising.
"Some of our players need games. They need to get fit. But that is the problem with the international break. But we need to get them fit and playing."

Rob, London: Fear Factor? Let's not run before we can walk. QPR didn't look interested and were truly awful.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal talking to the BBC:
"This is special because it is also the birthday of my wife. I have already given her a present but she said the biggest present shall be the victory. We give it to her.
"I think we can do much better. I said let's make a new start. All the new players are playing.
"We have very intelligent players. The most important thing is not the system but the philosophy. Tyler Blackett is a little bit lucky because a lot of central defenders are injured. He made a very good performance but there are also other defenders still to come."

Manager reaction
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "When you have a result of 4-0 then you can be happy as a coach but you always have points you can improve. I am very happy because of the result and the way we have played. We were very dominant and scored goals and kept a clean sheet.
"In ball possession I think we have lost too much the ball previously. We were more direct and that I like. Also, we have created a lot of chances, although we didn't score enough of them.
"We have always to analyse what we have done. The result is fantastic but we can get much better. This is a good start."

FULL-TIME
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
An absolute walk in the park for Manchester United. Angel Di Maria was the star man, but Daley Blind also looked the part. QPR were wretched, but you can only beat what's in front of you and Louis Van Gaal's side did that with aplomb.
GREAT SAVE!

Another good save for Rob Green, getting down well to push away Adnan Januzaj's low shot. That would really have rubbed it in. Januzaj then gets in behind again but gets his angles all wrong, hooking it high and wide.

Only time will tell but I feel their upcoming Everton match will he a good indicator!
HITS THE WOODWORK
Man Utd 4-0 QPR
QPR are not big believers in tackling at the moment, preferring to stand off and watch the red tide wash over their shores. Robin van Persie is allowed to make his way to the deadball line and his chipped cross hits the angle of post and bar. The Dutchman then shoots over on the spin - he probably needs a goal to stay in the team at the moment.

Wayne Rooney has taken Juan Mata's space in behind the front two, and almost has a fifth as he ghosts into space but can't quite control the ball. If you could request a scenario to make your debut as a striker, than 4-0 up at home to QPR would be high on the list.

Armand Traore does make a difference! Lung-buster of a run from left-back, great stuff as he gallops infield, beats Jonny Evans and tees up Niko Kranjcar to strike one. Ander Herrera doesn't get many - just seven league goals in nearly 100 games for Athletic Bilbao - but he took that really well.
GOAL
Man Utd 2-0 QPR - Ander Herrera
A really good counter-attacking goal, the Manchester United of old almost? Steady on.
It was forged by the pace and industry of Angel Di Maria again, carrying the ball 50+ yards with a really incisive run before slipping it inside to Wayne Rooney. His shot is blocked but fellow new boy Ander Herrera arrives to slam the loose change back into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
So far so good for the United reboot.

Here are a selection of your comments in response to the discussion of Alan Pardew's position as manager of Newcastle United held on MOTD 2 Extra earlier today.
Scott Speed: The manager's job is to get the best out of the group of players he has at his disposal and it's hard to argue in Alan Pardew's favour right now. I personally felt the effort given by our players yesterday is a sad indictment of the way Pardew has the squad motivated or not as it appears. His days are numbered and I for one would welcome a change in fortunes. That only seems to be attainable through an injection of new management.
Marc Thornton: Pardew has to go. Over the last two years I have seen some of the most atrocious football at St James' Park at times, including two hammerings off Sunderland. Football has changed since the Kevin Keegan era so I wouldn't expect a new saviour to come in and turn us into Barcelona but I'm quite sure change is needed.
Chris Pugh: If you're going to sell your best players and not replace them, you're always gonna wind up in trouble... Ashley should think of that before sacking a gaffer.

Derby have started the second half the stronger of the two teams at the City Ground. Nottingham Forest fans are trying to rouse their side. Forest's Henri Lansbury has become the fifth name into the book in a feisty game.
Just a shade under an hour gone.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has privately been told that he is expected to not only return the club to the Champions League this season, but also win the Premier League according to the Sunday Mirror.
Van Gaal will not be happy with his squad apparently "until United raid Roma for £30m midfield powerhouse Kevin Strootman in January" though.

Stuart Pearce will be pleased with the application of his players but unhappy with his side's lack of penetration. Steve McClaren will be happy to go in to half time level at 0-0 but will be unhappy about his team's lack of possession, and again, a failure to create clear chances."

Rio Ferdinand has described former England team-mate John Terry as "stupid" in the most frank interview yet around Terry's alleged racial abuse of his brother Anton.
"He never apologised to me or Anton and has never hinted he has had a moment of understanding over the damage his stupidity has inflicted on everyone," Ferdinand has said in his latest book, which is serialised in the Sun today.
"There were bullets in the post and unending racist abuse. He could have saved everyone a lot of pain by admitting immediately that he had used the words in the heat of the moment, but was no racist.
"I think that's probably what happened and what the truth is."He never apologised to me or Anton and has never hinted he has had a moment of understanding over the damage his stupidity has inflicted on everyone," he said.

Adam Hawksley: We've been talking about Newcastle United underperforming and declining for 10 years, since Mike Ashley took over.
Richard Howarth: The problem with Pardew is not yesterday's performance; it is the 18 points from the last 69. Oh and the headbutt.
Ian: Newcastle's problems aren't really anyone's fault; the fans just have to realise that this is the club's level now.

Diego Costa's Young Persons Railcard
MOTD2 Extra
Independent chief football correspondent Sam Wallace: "I saw Diego Costa play against Chelsea's John Terry in the Champions League semi-final last season and he was very aggressive. He looks a player ideally suited to English football, and it already seems like he has been around for years, although someone pointed out to me that he is still eligible for a Young Person's Railcard.
"So much of a striker's career is defined by the start they make. If they can get goals early on it makes life so much easier. Fernando Torres never got over that bad start at Chelsea. When Ruud van Nisterlrooy came to Manchester United it was the start that he made that reassured the fans and the club that they had not bought a dud."

Inside they have an interview with Cosmin Moti, the Ludogrets defender who saved a penalty to book his side's place in the Champions League group stages, ahead of his trip to Liverpool on Tuesday.
They also claim that a clutch of agents are vying to represent Aston Villa's young midfielder Jack Grealish.
His dad does the job at the moment, but with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all interested in the 19-year-old, it may be time for a more experienced hand.

Trouble in the North-East

Independent chief football correspondent Sam Wallace, speaking about Newcastle United: "In many ways Alan Pardew has had an admirable career, but when he came in at Newcastle he replaced Chris Hughton who was popular with the fans, and when aligned to an unpopular regime things were always going to be difficult to be for him as soon as things started to go wrong.

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas, talking about another of his former clubs, Newcastle United: "Issues usually start at the top and filter their way down through the management and onto the pitch. If Newcastle needed an example of that it was yesterday. There were some pretty poor performances out there.
"One of the issues is how much control Alan Pardew has got. There are a few questions the fans have highlighted regarding the players coming in and out.
"What is the identity now of Newcastle United? The stadium name has gone, and they have not got the core players they need. When I was there there was Alan Shearer, Gary Speed and Steve Harper. They were players who came through the Newcastle system and knew what the club was about."

Newcastle - 'a soap opera club'

"You can't blame the manager for the performance of the two centre-backs yesterday, and the goalkeeper didn't help with his display either.
"But Alan Pardew knows it's a results business and the results aren't coming. The writing does seem to be on the wall, whether or not there is another U-turn waiting I'm not so sure this time.
"I do think he's had his best players sold from underneath him and I think the owner needs to share some responsibility. It's a soap opera club and anything that happens seems to be out there on public show, that certainly doesn't help matters."

On returning to Old Trafford for the first time since leaving Manchester United: "It will be emotional. I had great years there, some really good times. I never got to say goodbye when I left, which was unfortunate, so it will be a nice opportunity to say bye to some of the people who helped me achieve what I did.
"Harry Redknapp gave me the opportunity to start at West Ham, this will be the final chapter in my career and to finish it with him was a huge pull.
"I'm not expecting silverware or bus parades. It is survival. I'm expecting to stay in the league. That is what the fans want, that is what the club needs. As players we need to go out and deliver."
