A goal of almost embarrassing ease. Angel Di Maria is allowed to carry the ball forwards and shoot from 25 yards, he scuffs it across the face of goal and there is nobody within five yards of Juan Mata. The Spaniard gathers it in and drives high into the net. Awful, awful defending.

What time is Falcao O'Clock then? Get him on, let's have a look at him. He could be United's best loan signing since Mr Garth Crooks.

"Juan Mata did exceptionally well to ride a strong challenge, he stayed on his feet but couldn't get enough power on the shot as he was off balance. It fell to Wayne Rooney but he could get the ball out of his feet. Why not go down there? You're not going to get a penalty if you stay on your feet."

A stat that will interest those people who reckon every packet of crisps has its sell by date on a Saturday - and nobody else: QPR have won only one away match in the top-flight on a Sunday, winning 3-2 at Manchester City on 14 May 1995.

  5. Postpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Put your foot through it! Big chance for a fourth as Juan Mata gets away from his marker but can't convert Rafael's cutback, his tame effort lands at the feet of Wayne Rooney and he too can't beat Rob Green.

Paul Scott:, external Angel Di Maria is giving United the fear factor immediately! So good to see. Going for 5-1 full time.

Daley Blind has impressed today, though he's had an east ride in that deep midfield position. He hasn't had to do much defensive work but has been very neat and tidy on the ball. Ditto Tyler Blackett - who you feel should make the most of this run in the side.

He'll remember the days he played with Van Persie, Rooney, Falcao, Mata, Di Maria fondly...

"The second half should be same again for Man United, this is a great opportunity for them to get more goals against a poor Queens Park Rangers side. QPR just have to try to come away from here only 3-0 down. They just have to try and keep their goal difference down.

"Excellent play from Angel Di Maria. He is someone with pace, balance, desire and tricks. That is what being a Manchester United player is all about."

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 17:06 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Armand Traore does make a difference! Lung-buster of a run from left-back, great stuff as he gallops infield, beats Jonny Evans and tees up Niko Kranjcar to strike one. The Croatian drills it from 20 yards, but David De Gea makes the save with his feet. That's more like it - QPR's first shot on target.

  10. Postpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

No apparent change to QPR's shape or approach then, as Angel Di Maria gets the crowd off their seats again with strength, touch and vision to extricate himself from a tricky spot at left-back.

Andy Craig:, external Have to feel sorry for David Moyes as he never got this kind of firepower as backing. Won't be possible to judge between him and LVG.

Ohigu Musa:, external Angel Di Maria makes other players around him better and sharp. Real Madrid must be biting their fingers.

David Thorpe:, external Hate that QPR aren't in their hoops today. Away strips should only be when needed, a team's colours are their colours.

Andrew, London: Although QPR are playing deep Daley Blind looks really settled - I can't remember a misplaced pass. Rojo's work rate also impressive.

Peter: This is unbelievable, sensational stuff. A side who have spent more that any English club in history in a single window is beating one of the worst Premier League sides of all time at home! Give them the title now.

Jerome, London: QPR at home gentleman. Let's keep a sense of perspective. They were in the Championship last year.

QPR have only scored once all season in the Premier League. This game is as good as gone but a goal or two would lift their morale no end.

Or is it all about Radamel Falcao now?

Armand Traore is obviously the answer to QPR's issues - he's going through a hefty warm-up which would suggest that he's coming on.

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Old Trafford: "Wayne Rooney's third goal has completed almost a perfect half for Manchester United. The entire stadium seems to have responded to the influx of new talent and the players have responded with a zest rarely seen in the David Moyes era.

"Rooney, Herrera, Mata, Di Maria and Van Persie have interchanged brilliantly and now it is purely a case of how many - and how long before Radamel Falcao is introduced.

"Louis van Gaal knows much stiffer challenges lay ahead. But this is a pretty good start."
