For QPR it's just one Premier League goal so far then, and next Saturday's visit of Stoke is already looking pretty important.

Chris Harvey:, external Manchester United and Liverpool's new look sides played home games against weak sides. One won with ease, the other didn't record a shot on target.

Mahbub Anam:, external Van Galacticos. How can James Rodriguez be an upgrade on Angel Di Maria? Once Angel adds goals he'll be as good as Ronaldo.

Guy Renfrew:, external Di Maria with a goal and assist. Herrera with a goal and assist. Rooney with a goal and assist. That's more like it.

With no European football to worry about Manchester United have a clear week now until they face Leicester next Sunday afternoon. With Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all in midweek action, will that prove to a big advantage in the league?

"On today's performance it was a Man Utd side people want to come and pay to watch. But defensively, when are they going to be tested? QPR could have equalised with that ball over the top, so there are still questions. Let's not forget they have beaten QPR today. Spurs beat them 4-0 and we are not talking about them winning the league.

"If you ask every United fan in this stadium I think the majority would say no, they will not win the league this year."

Just the 95 touches, 76 passes, six crosses, two shots, four chances created and a goal. Not bad from Angel Di Maria this afternoon.

Rajan Paudel, external: Perfect match by United after a long time. Passion, hunger, desire, what we needed. And still there is more to come.

Hashim Albahbahani:, external I don't care how poorly they start a season, United are always title contenders. They've shown that today. Never write them off.

Max Whelford:, external Can't say I'm not impressed with the Man United side today. It will be interesting to see what happens when they play a better side.

Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria: "I'm very happy for my debut and a first goal. I have been practicing those free-kicks this week, so it is not a surprise for me."

Juan Mata: "We played much much better. From the beginning until the last minute we tried to score goals and that's what we have to do with the players we have.

"It's a very important win and it's the first steps in a run of results, we hope."

"Manchester United look arrogant, they have got superstars in the team, the fear factor is back. There is a long way to go but what a start. This club is associated with some of the best players in the world. Now you think you will see exciting attacking football, which is what Man United should be doing.

"Angel Di Maria is my man of the match, just for his first half, I thought he was outstanding. There hasn't been a bad Man Utd player. But there have been 12 or 13, including the subs, bad QPR players."

An absolute walk in the park for Manchester United. Angel Di Maria was the star man, but Daley Blind also looked the part. QPR were wretched, but you can only beat what's in front of you and Louis Van Gaal's side did that with aplomb.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 17:48 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Another good save for Rob Green, getting down well to push away Adnan Januzaj's low shot. That would really have rubbed it in. Januzaj then gets in behind again but gets his angles all wrong, hooking it high and wide.

Nothing to see here, a stroll in the autumnal sunshine for Manchester United. New formations, new line-ups and new challenges await, while QPR will probably be thinking they should have had a go rather than line up not to get heavily beaten.

  15. Postpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

BBC Sport's Simon Stone at Old Trafford: "Di Maria is the final change, replaced by Adnan Januzaj for the final few minutes.

"The Argentine had gone down near the home box a couple of minutes earlier, and needed treatment.

"It didn't seem very serious at the time and there was no obvious concern on the United bench as Di Maria takes his place. Van Gaal taking no chances though."

Jamie Smith:, external I'm sure Louis van Gaal and co will be breathing a sigh of relief tonight. Vital three points after slow start to the season.

Antoine V:, external Falcao hasn't scored yet? He's rubbish!

"The question around Adnan Januzaj is: Will he get the run to show his talent at this football club? Di Maria, Rojo and Shaw they are all left-siders. Legends of this football club rave about Januzaj. But can he do it on a regular basis? Will he be given the chance?"

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 17:42 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Almost the Colombian icing on Manchester United's cake, Rob Green beats away Daley Blind's swerving drive from 25 yards but then gets back to his feet really smartly to save Radamel Falcao's follow-up. Top save.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 14 September 2014

Maybe Angel Di Maria does have a slight problem - he's replaced with eight minutes remaining, as Adnan Januzaj takes his spot. No point taking any chances now.
