You can't knock Newcastle's PA announcer for passion. He's whipped the crowd up into a stupor. They didn't really meet him halfway there...

"There will potentially be thousands of posters and dozens of banners on display at St James' Park calling for Alan Pardew to be sacked, but only one jumper - Matthew Haymer has had his specially made. 'As a season-ticket holder I have seen no progress under Pardew in the last four years,' he said.

"'He comes out with the same excuses and if we stick with him, we are going to end up back in the Championship. Let's get him out and get Tony Pulis or David Moyes in. Even Tim Sherwood could do a better job than Pardew.'"

"It was a lively, combative game that just lacked a little quality in the final third. Having to make two early changes disrupted QPR. They fought hard and it was a super free kick from Niko Kranjcar to equalise.

"I just feel QPR lacked that bit of pace in vital areas. It is quite clear where the problems are for Harry Redknapp."

A clarification on the apparent late change to the Arsenal team, with Alexis Sanchez originally included in the first XI only for a revision to the teamsheet seeing him drop to the bench, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain taking his place in the side.

It seems Sanchez was never meant to be in the first XI, with Match of the Day commentator Guy Mowbray saying the original teamsheets were printed incorrectly.

That's cleared that up then. Ronaldo at the 98 World Cup final all over again...

QPR midfielder Niko Kranjcar, speaking to BT Sport: "We are happy with the way we reacted. Coming in to the second half I thought we had the momentum and we showed character. From the footballing side we have to improve but we showed spirit and that is very important."

Leaders Bristol City, already six points clear of third place, will be looking to continue their fine start to the season at Fleetwood.

Peterborough will be hoping to keep pace with the Robins by coming away from Yeovil with some points.

At the bottom of the table, struggling Port Vale start life without Micky Adams with a home match against midtable Barnsley and last-placed Crewe visit Manchester United conquerors MK Dons looking for a second win of the season.

  7. Championship latestpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

It's the story of the managerless in the Championship today.

Fulham dispensed with the services of German Felix Magath on Thursday so caretaker Kit Symons takes the team for the first time at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's unhappy nine months at the helm of Cardiff City had reached its inevitable conclusion earlier that day and the Bluebirds visit Derby County this afternoon.

Over in Yorkshire Leeds United, who are set to appoint Darko Milanic as their new head coach, host local rivals Huddersfield Town.

Managerial instability is something Nottingham Forest know all about but Stuart Pearce has made an excellent start to life at the helm of the Reds, the leaders travel to Millwall.

A number of fans are already holding up their 'Sack Pardew' banners at St James' Park, and there seems to be a very large number of fluorescent jacketed- stewards around the Directors' Box.

A convincing home win would make the world of difference of course...

  9. Player reactionpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

Stoke City forward Peter Crouch, speaking to BT Sport: "To not win the game is cruel. I thought we were the better team. I thought we deserved to win the game. But at this level, one free kick is all it takes. I've seen him do it thousands of times in training. I said just before it: 'He is good at these.' It was a great free kick. But it is very disappointing and hard to take.

"We've made a good start to the season but we need to get back to basics at home. Away from home we have looked a real threat. We could have scored three or four but if you don't punish the quality teams you will always be susceptible to drawing the game."

"I have a book full of memories of Brian Clough. He and assistant Peter Taylor helped me in my first job by recommending me to Nuneaton many years ago.

"I will always remember when as manager of Luton I travelled up to Forest to watch a reserve game. His son Nigel happened to be playing, he'd just joined from Hunters, a youth club in Derby, after his A-levels.

"It was a horrible, wet evening and at half-time Brian said: 'Come in and have a drink with me.' When the bell went for the second half I went to get up and he said. 'Where are you going? Sit down, you will learn more listening to me than watching that rubbish out there.'

"And so I came all that way to watch the game and only watched one half. There are incredible stores about the way he managed. He had football intelligence. Top man."

"It seems there is always trouble at the Toon whenever they play the Tigers - Newcastle boss Alan Pardew headbutted Hull midfielder David Meyler at the KC Stadium in March and, when Hull came to St James' Park in September 2008, Magpies fans took part in prolonged demonstrations against owner Mike Ashley after Kevin Keegan had resigned.

"Pardew is set to apologise to Meyler again before kick-off but must wait until the fifth-minute to discover the size of the protest against him by a section of fans that seem determined to force his exit.

"There is a game of football to be played too, of course."
