"It was a very well taken free-kick but Stoke have possibly been conceding too many of them. A fine effort by Niko Kranjcar, above the wall, down and into the corner. Asmir Begovic had no chance. That gives QPR great heart. An equaliser here after that very difficult game away to Manchester United.

"Stoke are now waking up to the fact that they only have a few minutes to find victory."

And Steve Sidwell's aberration is so, so costly for Stoke! Niko Kranjcar takes the free-kick, and takes it superbly. Bent over the wall, into the top bag. No chance for Asmir Begovic on this occasion, and a rescue act for QPR.

Stoke have looked serene until the last five minutes but now they are ragged as Steve Sidwell goes into the book for an ugly lunge. It's a free-kick to QPR in a good spot, just outside the 'D'...

Asmir Begovic to Stoke's rescue! Karl Henry clips in the free-kick after that Ryan Shawcross reducer, Leroy Fer gets a faint touch and the ball is drifting into the corner until the Bosnian stretched out a big left mitt to push it away.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

Nothing too assured about that though as Ryan Shawcross slams into the back of Niko Kranjcar and triggers an angry reaction from several QPR players. He's booked, and rightly so.

A change has just been announced to the Arsenal starting XI, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming in for Alexis Sanchez, who drops to the bench.

No reason appears to have been given for the change.

Cheick Tiote makes his first start of the season for Newcastle in one of two changes made my manager Alan Pardew. Defender Paul Demmett also returns to the side, while striker Papiss Cisse is on the bench, having recovered from a knee injury.

Hull boss Steve Bruce keeps faith with the same XI that drew with West Ham on Monday, although Sone Aluko comes in for the Hatem Ben Arfa on the bench, with the latter ineligible because he is on loan from Newcastle.

Newcastle starting XI: Krul; Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Dummett; Tiote, Colback; Cabella, Sissoko, Gouffran; Riviere.

Hull starting XI: McGregor, Davies, Huddlestone, Hernandez, Livermore, Diame, Jelavic, Dawson, Robertson, Elmohamady, Quinn.

Aston Villa right-back Alan Hutton on Football Focus: "Just look at Roy Keane's career in general. He's been there and done it. To have someone like that in your corner is unbelievable. He and Paul Lambert have worked unbelievably well together.

"Look at our performances, the ways we've gone about our games. It's clicked and there is no reason it can't continue. You want to perform for yourself but you know if you aren't [Keane]'s going to be there to give you the shot you need. For me that's a good thing to spur you on, to get you back to where he thinks you should be. He's done brilliantly for everyone. Lifted the standard in training, doesn't want to let it drop."

  14. 'Pardew is a broken man'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 20 September 2014

    BBC Sport columnist Robbie Savage

"It is hard to see Newcastle manager Alan Pardew surviving in his job for much longer - his side were torn apart by Southampton last weekend and he sounded like a broken man in his interviews after that game.

"I do not think Pardew will get much sympathy if he is fired, because of the incidents he has been involved in during his time at St James' Park - such as his altercation with Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and his head-butt on Hull midfielder David Meyler.

"And, after almost four years in charge, Pardew cannot claim he has not had time to get things right.

"I do not know him personally so the only way I would judge him is by what his Newcastle teams have done on the pitch.

"He did brilliantly in his first full season in charge when they nearly made the Champions League places but, otherwise, it has been mainly average apart from the end of last season which was terrible."

Craig: If we do not sack AP now we are relegated for sure. Why are people only saying we have had a bad start to the season when the actual stats for all of 2014 are total shockers. I think that any manager at any club in Europe would have been sacked with his record in 2014.

Newcastle Fan: I keep hearing "who would they get to replace Pardew?" No doubt Ashley would have some choice. The question is, who is he going to give the buy/sell power to? Don't think he gave that to Kevin Keegan. He hasn't given it to Pardew. So will anyone actually be allowed to do a better job than Pardew is? Joe Kinnear? We could be a lot worse off. Give the manager and the players a chance to do their best today!

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, speaking before today's game: "You get cliches thrown around about players standing up etc. The most important thing is that there is a spirit on the pitch, and that there is a gameplan in place, Hull are a good team. Our first job is to win the first half, as simple as that.

"This is a huge club, let's not get away from the fact it is an emotional club too because it is, it is emotional when we win and emotional when we lose.

"We did enough in pre-season to get a win by now. We have to prove the performance in the Southampton defeat was a one off today, and that we are better than that. It is important for Newcastle today that any protests against myself and the management are reflected if they want to do that, but do not take away from this team trying to win."

A virus has swept through the Aston Villa squad and, while most are fit enough to play, defender Nathan Baker was sent home by boss Paul Lambert and Ciaran Clark has come in to take his place. That is the only change for the Villains from the win over Liverpool last Saturday.

Arsenal have defender Calum Chambers fit again so he replaces Hector Bellerin, while midfielder Santi Cazorla comes in for the benched Jack Wilshere following the 2-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund in midweek.

Aston Villa XI: Guzan, Senderos, Hutton, Clark, Cissokho, Delph, Westwood, Cleverley, Richardson, Weimann, Agbonlahor.

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil, Alexis, Welbeck.
