Everton midfielder Gareth Barry: "We always knew we had won the group so it was a chance to try a few young players. The group has come in today and done a great job. We wanted to win but there were plenty of positives.

"It is never easy when one youngster comes in on their own with lots of experienced players around them. So when three, four or five are playing together, it is always a bit more difficult. At half-time, the manager said 'impress yourself a bit more'.

"I thought we took the game to Krasnodar in the second half and thought we were unlucky not to get the goal."

No more chances for Everton to salvage a draw as their Europa League group campaign ends with a defeat.

But tonight wasn't about the result for Roberto Martinez. No, with his team already assured of finishing as Group H winners, he was more interested in blooding a few youngsters.

And in that respect I'm sure the Spaniard will be content with a successful evening.

Plenty of encouragement from those Everton fans who have braved the lashing rain, and resisted the temptation to run back early to the warm car.

Can they be cheered by a late equaliser? Another reminder that it will NOT affect Everton's progress in the Europa League -they're already through to the last 16.

An England Under-21 international, Tyias Browning - who is making his first start for Everton tonight - was given the ultimate test when he made his club debut as a substitute against Liverpool at Anfield in September.

Born in Liverpool, the 20-year-old has been on the books at Goodison Park since he was 10.

The defender, who has a reputation for no-nonsense tackling, helped Everton win the Under-18 Premier League title in 2011, and played two games in the Championship when manager Roberto Martinez sent him out to his former club Wigan on a month's loan in January.
