  1. CLOSE!published at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

This game is wide open now. Besiktas midfielder Kerim Koyunnlu has the chance to bury Spurs as the Turks pick apart the away defence with a slick move. But he fires into the side-netting and glances to his bench with a knowing look. Slaven Bilic does not have to tell him that he should have done better.

That opening goal has woken Spurs up from their brief slumber. Danny Rose is the next to trouble the Besiktas goal, as the left-back's fierce daisycutter is gathered by home keeper Tolga Zengin.

Oooh, almost a near-instant reply from the visitors. Another Spurs corner is flicked on the near post to Roberto Soldado, who untidily shoots wide.

And that goal means Spurs will finish as Group C runners-up as things stand. But if they find an equaliser then they will leapfrog Besiktas again....

  5. Besiktas 1-0 Tottenhampublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

    Bradley Allen
Tottenham academy coach on BBC London 94.9

"It's a brilliantly worked goal. They recycled the ball so well after Tosun struck the bar - he deserved the goal for that himself. That was really unselfish by Olcay Sahan to set up the goal.

"I think the disappointment is that Spurs are behind having played OK - they hadn't really been troubled. We wondered if Besiktas would come out to attack, and in the last couple of minutes, we've had the answer."

But Tottenham cannot hold on for long. The away defence are left rocking - like the frame of their goal - from Cenk Tosun hitting the crossbar. And they crumble moments later.

Olcay Sahan calmly steers a long ball across the six-yard box to team-mate Tosun who sidefoots home the opener.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Tottenham escape! And Younes Kaboul particularly is thanking his lucky stars. The French defender is caught in possession and Cenk Tosun cracks a thunderous shot against the crossbar.

  8. Europa League latestpublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Most eventful match of the night is taking place in Denmark's capital, where Italian side Torino have surely secured qualification from Group B as they lead nine-man FC Copenhagen 5-1.

Copenhagen's Mikael Antonssen was dismissed after 30 minutes for a professional foul, before Mathias Jorgensen was dismissed just before the break as he gave away the penalty from which Amauri gave Torino a 2-1 half-time lead. Quick goals from Josef Martinez, Matteo Darmian and Gaston Silva have put the game to bed.

The Danes were already out of the competition anyway, but it's turning into a grim night for their manager Stale Solbakken, the former Wimbledon midfielder and Wolves boss.

Torino, who started the night in second, could yet top the group ahead of Club Brugge, who are being held 1-1 at home by HJK Helsinki.

  9. Postpublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Danny Rose is starting to enjoy himself now. The Spurs left-back launches another attack for the away side, but has a rush of blood to the head as he skews a long-range shot into the box. Sure he'll claim it was a pass intended for Roberto Soldado. I'm not buying that.

  10. Postpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Danny Rose stretches his legs as he gallops down the touchline like a gazelle. The Spurs left-back pumps in a dangerous cross which the Besiktas defence scramble clear. Paulinho wastes the resulting corner. Again.

  11. Postpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Friendly stuff as Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun slaps the back of Spurs marker Younes Kaboul as the pair fly into a full-blooded challenge on the left touchline. To be fair, I wouldn't want to upset the big Frenchman either. Big man.

  12. Postpublished at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

If Besiktas want to finish as Group C winners, as Slaven Bilic said he did in his pre-match interview, then his side must show some more adventure.

That they do, as full-back Serdar Kurtulus misses the target with a speculative shot from outside the area.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Spurs striker Robert Soldado has the honour of having the first touch of the ball in the second half. Game on!

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

The players are re-emerging in the Istanbul gloom for the restart. Or, I should say, the second restart.

Besiktas boss Slaven Bilic decides to make a change at the break. Atinc Nukan replacing fellow defender Ersan Gulum, who was booked in the first half.

  15. Get involved - teenage kickspublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Earlier, we asked for your memories of teenage stars bursting on to the football scene.

From Kevin in Essex: Jermain Defoe scoring in all those consecutive games for Bournemouth. People watching knew he'd be destined for the top.

From Kev in Grimsby: I was at Brighton in 1982 to see our hero, big Norman Whiteside, make his Manchester United debut. What a man - great memories.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

    Bradley Allen
Tottenham academy coach on BBC London 94.9

"I don't think either set of players were fazed by the stoppage. Spurs have been professional. They've made one or two chances. The midfield three of Stambouli, Dembele and Paulinho have controlled this match."

  17. Europa League latestpublished at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

While we are still twiddling our thumbs waiting for the net to bulge in Istanbul, there is a goal frenzy in Besiktas boss Slaven Bilic's native Croatia.

But it isn't good news for Celtic. The Scottish champions are trailing 4-2 after conceding twice in quick succession after the restart. In truth, it doesn't matter a great deal as the Bhoys are already certain of finishing second in their group.

  18. Everton team newspublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

    Arouna KoneImage source, PA

Remember Arouna Kone? The Ivorian striker is set makes his first senior Everton appearance for 14 months after recovering from cruciate knee ligament damage.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez makes 10 changes to the side beaten at Manchester City on Saturday. Gareth Barry is the only player retained.

Martinez gives a debut to 17-year-old midfielder Ryan Ledson, who captained England to the Under-17 European Championship title in May, and has led the national Under-18 side this season.

Everton starting XI: Robles, Browning, Alcaraz, Barry, Garbutt, Ledson, Pienaar, Atsu, Oviedo, McAleny, Kone.

  19. Europa League latestpublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Right, let's bring you up to date with some half-times elsewhere. The biggest excitement is in Groups A and B where, in both cases, three teams are battling for two places in the knockout stage.

Borussia Monchengladbach are on course to win Group A, as they lead third-placed FC Zurich 1-0 at the break. If that score stays as it is, Villarreal will go through in second whatever happens, but they look like making sure for themselves as they are 2-0 up away to Apollon Limassol, who can't qualify.

In Group B, leaders Club Brugge are 1-0 up on third-placed HJK Helsinki, and are set to be joined in the last 32 by Torino, who are 2-1 up away to already-eliminated FC Copenhagen.

  20. As things standpublished at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

    Spurs

So far so good for Spurs. They are halfway to completing their task of earning a draw and finishing as Group C winners.
