Right-back Tyias Browning is another youngster who Roberto Martinez will be pleased with tonight. Browning, like Luke Garbutt on the opposite flank, has not been shy in ploughing forward, and his deep cross picks out Arouna Kone. But the Ivorian striker cannot control and the chance goes begging.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Ricardo Laborde can be pleased with his night's work - as things stand the Krasnodar man is the matchwinner. He is replaced by Nikita Burmistrov for the final 15 minutes.

Golden chance for Krasnodar to kill off this spirited Everton side. Gaps appear at the back as the Blues search for a leveller, with Krasnodar attacker Joaozinho in acres of space on the left of Everton's penalty area. He twists, he turns. He dillies, he dallies. And instead of shooting himself he picks out team-mate Marat Izmailov, who cannot hit the target. Waste.

Jamie Lang:, external Robles won the FA Cup the other year, which Everton would give their right nut, can't expect him to be matchfit warming bench

Another raid down the left side sees Arouna Kone charge at the Krasnodar defence. A couple of tentative challenges go in on the Ivorian, who - to his credit - keeps his feet as he enters the penalty area. Some would have gone down there and got a penalty. Or a yellow card.

The home side are continuing to force the pace, they have woken up in the past 15 minutes. Bryan Oviedo gets the crowd on their feet by sticking the ball through an opponent's legs, before Everton work the ball left to Luke Garbutt. The left-back steadies himself and unleashes a low angled shot that away keeper Andrei Sinitsin gathers.

Sharp movement from Everton substitute Kieran Dowell as he races on to Bryan Oviedo's slick through ball. The youngster sees the morning headlines flash across his mind as he lets fly from 15 yards, only to see Ragnar Sigurdsson's superb sliding tackle block his effort.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Steven Pienaar is walking a disciplinary tightrope after being shown the yellow card for a foul. The South African midfielder laughs as the referee brandishes the card. But it's not a genuine laugh. It's an incredulous laugh of disgust.

Roberto Martinez, wrapped up in a stylish wool overcoat and scarf combo, is barking instructions on the Goodison touchline to his young players. Think he will be happy overall with what he has seen so far.

Krasnodar offer a warning sign that they are dangerous on the break though, Mauricio Pereyra allowed space to drag a potshot wide. Toffees keeper Joel Robles unruffled.

Matt Q:, external Ryan Ledson is my Arsenal and England captain in Football Manager 2014. Worth £42million and has won all there is to win, including the World Cup. I am currently in the year 2024. Ledson has lifted the Premier League six times in a row. What a career.

Another sight of the Krasnador goal as Everton slowly but surely increase the pressure. Teenage substitute Kieran Dowell bursts clear down the left and fizzes a low cross across the Russian goal. Bryan Oviedo arrives at the far post but is almost surprised to see the ball land at his feet, unconvincingly prodding the ball wide.

That effort from Arouna Kone lifts the Goodison Park crowd, who find their voices to give their young heroes some encouragement. Left-back Luke Garbutt is at the centre of most of Everton's best work, shooting low from distance as the home side chalk up only their second shot on target.

Shame he has to look at the back of Leighton Baines's mop-top in the queue for a starting position.

Chances at either end. First Joel Robles has to be alert to block a low Krasnodar shot. Then, seconds later, Arouna Kone turns sharply inside the penalty area and forces the away keeper Andrei Sinitsin into beating away the ball at his near post.

Now they have a chance. The home side win a free-kick close to the left touchline and it is whipped in dangerously by their left-back. Nope, not Leighton Baines - Luke Garbutt. The English youngster has a mean left peg on him but no-one can get a killer touch.

The Russian visitors look more refreshed after the restart, flying out of the blocks sharper than Usain Bolt. Everton have barely had a kick, but Krasnodar can't stretch Joel Robles in the Toffees goal.

"He's got to get the geeza to bend the ball right round him," says ITV pundit Les Ferdinand of Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles' efforts for Krasnodar's opening goal.

I couldn't have put that any better myself Sir Les.

Cliff B:, external I've been supportive of this second XI this evening - a good run out - but Robles is so out of his depth he needs scuba gear.
