  • Everton already through to next round

  1. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Referee Stefan Johannesson, with his shaved balding head and three-day stubble, doesn't look like a man who messes about. And the stern Swede does not mess about here. No added time as he toots his whistle as soon as the clock passes the 45-minute mark.

  2. Postpublished at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Everything goes a little scrappy as we head towards stoppage time. But that suits Spurs, who only need a draw remember to finish as group winners.

Spurs left-back Danny Rose is left isolated as Besiktas midfielder Kerim Koyunlu tries to make some magic happen for the home side. But the Turkey international - a name familiar to Fulham and Cardiff fans - cannot swing in a telling delivery from the right as Spurs clear easily.

  4. FIVE TO GOpublished at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Five minutes of the first half remaining - can Tottenham nudge ahead with a deserved opener before the break?

And if you're arriving late and wondering why it isn't already half-time, that's because we had a 15-minute delay after floodlight failure. Spurs are cursed in this competition...

  5. Europa League latestpublished at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

It's all happening at the Stadion Maksimir. Marko Pjaca has scored his second of the night for Dinamo Zagreb to make it 2-2 at half-time against Celtic, who had gone in front through Stefan Scepovic after Kris Commons' equaliser. Ronny Deila's side will go through as runners-up in Group D whatever happens, and you can follow Clive Lindsay's live text commentary on the BBC Sport website.

A terrific effort from Azerbaijan champions FK Qarabag has come to nothing - they have held Group F winners Inter Milan to a 0-0 draw, but slip to third place and elimination because Dnipro have beaten St Etienne 1-0 to clinch second spot. Those games both kicked off at 17:00 GMT.

Tottenham have 10 men inside the Besiktas half (keeper Michel Vorm obviously being the exception) as they probe for an opening. Nacer Chadli tries to latch on to Younes Kaboul's long pass, but a home defender shepherds the ball out for a goal-kick.

"I think Mauricio Pochettino will be pleased with this so far. Spurs have shaded it; they've certainly offered more going forward and could well be in front."

Mousa Dembele drives forward from the Spurs midfield, showing the touch and poise of a ballet dancer as he shrugs off a Besiktas opponent. Unfortunately his shot lacks power and goes straight down the throat of home keeper Tolga Zengin.

  10. Get involved - teenage kickspublished at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Earlier, we asked for your memories of teenage stars bursting on to the football scene.

From Chris in London: Trevor Francis, aged 16, scoring four against Bolton in an incredible start to his career. Didn't want to pass to anybody and didn't need to. He scored 12 goals in eight games as he burst on to the scene with Birmingham City. Sensational.

Now it is Tottenham's turn to step forward with intent again. Roberto Soldado's cutback from the right almost picks out Paulinho but, as the Brazilian swings his foot through the air seeing the glory in his mind, Besiktas defender Ersan Gulum nips in first.

  12. Postpublished at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Now the home side give their already-vociferous fans something more to shout about. Olcay Sahan trundles through the away defence without much conviction and then gets lucky when a rebound off a Spurs leg comes back to him. That allows him to dig out an angled shot but Michel Vorm is happy to watch it go over his bar.

  13. Postpublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Replays show that Chadli had only marginally strayed past the last Besiktas defender. Very close. And the home side would not have been able to complain had Spurs gone ahead if he hadn't - the English visitors are dominating possession and chances.

  14. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Spurs have the ball in the back of the net as Nacer Chadli coolly clips over the Besiktas keeper. The Belgian beats the home defence, but he doesn't beat the linesman's flag. Offside.

Another Roberto Soldado chance. Another missed opportunity. The Spaniard shows excellent movement to peel off to the right, picks up Mousa Dembele's sliding pass but sees his low shot blocked.

Spurs win another corner. They're 5-1 ahead in that battle...

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

I said Roberto Soldado needed some love (16 mins) but he's not getting any from the mean Besiktas defenders. They're giving him a right kicking. Home centre-back Ersan Gulum goes into the book for one such offence.

  18. Besiktas 0-0 Tottenhampublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

    Bradley Allen
Tottenham academy coach on BBC Radio London 94.9

"There have been moments of attacking promise for Spurs. When they use Andros Townsend and Nacer Chadli, they look threatening - but there's always that fear they could be caught on the break themselves. It's finely poised at the moment."

  19. Postpublished at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

Besiktas are a team in impressive form. The Turkish leaders have won five of their last six matches, but are showing few signs of extending that run so far. Spurs pretty comfortable.

  20. CLOSE!published at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2014

You've got to score from there! Spurs striker Roberto Soldado is a man starved of more confidence than a recently-dumped boyfriend.

But the Spaniard scuffs hopelessly straight at Besiktas keeper Tolga Zengin from six-yards after Younes Kaboul's headed knockdown. He needs some love. He needs a goal.
