West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing: "It was a very good home win for us to move to seventh. Our home form is good and no disrespect to QPR, but we have to beat teams like this at home. We are playing well as a team, enjoying ourselves and there is competition for places that keeps everyone on their toes."

"West Ham looked very comfortable and Sam Allardyce will be delighted. They go above Arsenal on goal difference. The strikers were fantastic, the defence looked assured, and Alex Song covered every blade of grass. Another great win for West Ham."

"That was a bit of a weak attempt in the end from Kevin Nolan, he is normally very good in those situations. He will be disappointed with that.

"On Enner Valencia, West Ham took something of a risk in signing an Ecuadorian who we didn't really know very much about. He has had to settle into playing in this country but the risk has paid off. He has linked up with Diafra Sakho extremely well. Alex Song, another signing, has also played really well today."

The Hammers almost make it three when Alex Song wins the ball in midfield and Stewart Downing squares to Kevin Nolan in the box but the midfielder side-foots his effort straight at Rob Green.

Vinny Pearson:, externalThought Adel Taraabt was meant to be lining up for Real Madrid or Inter Milan this season? On the other side, Enner Valencia and Alex Song smart signings.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Aaron Cresswell picks up a booking for a cynical trip on Adel Taarabt. The subsequent free-kick is curled in, but West Ham easily clear their lines.

  15. Postpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

It's all a bit too predictable from QPR now as Jordon Mutch becomes the latest to have a dig from range. Adrian is equal to the test.

Former West Ham striker John Hartson at Upton Park

"You cannot say Harry Redknapp hasn't tried. QPR are currently playing with four strikers, so credit to him. He has tried everything in terms of his substitutions but West Ham are more than good value for their 2-0 lead at the moment.

"QPR were very fortunate not to concede another through the Rob Green incident (61 mins), and apart from Niko Kranjcar's free-kick Adrian has not been tested at the other end."

  17. Postpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Adel Taarabt does what he's been sent on to do - shimmies past a couple of defenders before smashing a shot wide of Adrian's goal.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Now QPR make their final change - Jordon Mutch returning from injury to replace Niko Kranjcar. Like for like really.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Which of the Premier League managers would get an invite to Big Sam's do? Arsene and Jose can both probably go, provided they behave themselves. Hopefully there will be no argy-bargy while the cabaret is on.

Back to more serious matters, Kevin Nolan is sent on for West Ham in place of Mauro Zarate.

As Sam Allardyce prepares to celebrate his 60th birthday (see 7mins) this month, we're asking you to imagine what his party would be like...

Steve: Big Sam's birthday wish-list would include a paint by numbers, in different shades of grey only. When completed it might not be pretty but he's got a result. As for the party, Ivan Campo could make a guest appearance as a clown (based on physical appearance, not defensive competency I hasten to add).
