Christian, resigned Arsenal fan: Can't Arsenal just start the season with a six-point deficit and not have to play Chelsea? Can't stand having to see Jose Mourinho's smug face before, during and after games.

Adam Napier-Smith: I think Mourinho has put together a title-winning team this season. Thibaut Courtois and the back four have been solid. Cesc Fabregas has serviced both Eden Hazard and Diego Costa perfectly too. Good signs!

A few thoughts from West Ham legend Sir Trevor Brooking....

On this year's squad and manager Sam Allardyce: "You've got to give Sam a bit of credit. We've been given stick. We haven't played well at home for a couple of years really but he did identify some really good players this summer.

"There's no question it's a much better group but having said that you've then got to deliver. Certainly QPR is one of those games on paper you want to win - then 10 points from the opening seven games is great."

Target for the season? "Mid-table stability. I'm looking at the middle of the table and above, rather than the middle of the table and below, looking over our shoulder, like we have been for the last couple of years.

"What I'd like, and obviously I'm biased with my FA Cup background, I'd like to see the club - if they're doing OK in the league - go for an FA Cup and see if we can have a nice day out at Wembley."

Luke Gwalchmai:, external Apparently we didn't bring back Cesc Fabregas because we already have Mesut Ozil. I know who I'd rather have. Fabregas is pure class.

Ian Marks:, external Vital, vital win for Spurs today. Especially considering our next game is City away...

Kanayo Umeogu:, external At least people can stop saying Arsene Wenger has never beaten Jose Mourinho. He won the pushing contest.

It was all rather easy for Chelsea, wasn't it? As for the managers... it looks like Jose Mourinho headed off down the tunnel before shaking hands with Arsene Wenger.

Tottenham forward Nacer Chadli: "We are all working hard during the week, we had two games and it is good for us to work hard. Then on the weekend we can show what we can do. Everybody is fit and it is good for the group. We know each other more than last season and are more used to playing together. We just grow and grow, we played against a strong side, today, for us it is good."

  6. Player reactionpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen: "We have not had that many good home games so far, so we are pleased with three points. We had some chances especially in the first half and some smaller chances in the second half. Other games we haven't scored them but today we did. The players know each other but the system we have to connect it, and there is progress every time we play."

  7. WHAT A MISS!published at 16:12 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

I have to apologise... I said Diego Costa had been substituted a couple of minutes ago. My mistake... it was Oscar. Anyway, Costa will wish he had been sitting on the bench after this miss - he fails to find an empty net from six yards out. Over the bar the ball goes. It was offside, but Costa didn't know that.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Danny Welbeck's miserable day is complete when he is shown a yellow card for clattering Cesc Fabregas on the touchline. We're almost into injury time now.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Oscar's work is done. He's replaced by Willian.

Nicholas Clemmow:, external Settled by two moments of brilliance. The run by Eden Hazard and the pass by Cesc Fabregas. Not settled by a lack of commitment by Arsenal.

Peter Collins:, external Arsenal can take heart from this. Marginal decisions against them, another day could have been so different.

The Recycling Writer:, external Tottenham weren't the better side, but that's an essential three points to help us build momentum. In Poch we trust.

For the record, here is Danny Welbeck's touch map. Does he need to be more disciplined in his positioning?

You're right, Michael... Danny Welbeck has done very little today. But has he had any service? Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla have been muscled out of the game and Jack Wilshere seemed to be trying to win the game on his own.

Rian Hoskins:, external Fabulous pass by Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa's finish was superb. It's amazing how quickly the two have found such an understanding.

Momin Zed:, external Respect Costa. Clearly a big game player. What a buy!

Michael Bracken:, external This is the type of big game where Danny Welbeck will let Arsenal down! Done absolutely nothing.

Former Scotland international Pat Nevin at White Hart Lane

"It's not something you often say about Tottenham but they managed to win quite ugly today. Spurs probably shaded it just. As the home team they had a little bit more of the play.

"But I am disappointed with Southampton. I thought they would push on a bit more in the second half, but they left it until five minutes from the end and even then only lumped in long balls towards Graziano Pelle. The Spurs centre-backs ate up everything that was thrown at them."

  15. Women's Super Leaguepublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Drama in the Women's Super League where Chelsea are minutes away from clinching the title for the first time with one game to spare after opening up a 5-2 lead against bottom club Everton.

But the champagne must stay on ice as winger Karen Carney's hits a late winner for Birmingham at Manchester City. The Blues win 2-1 and go into the final round of fixtures two points behind Chelsea.

Rachel Williams and Eniola Aluko score two goals each while Hannah Blundell also finds the net for Chelsea against Everton.

  16. Championship updatepublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

Early-season leaders Nottingham Forest came into today's game knowing that a win would take them back top, but they have not been able to shake the strange dip in form that has seen them record goalless draws in their last three matches.

Ipswich lead through Daryl Murphy and it could have been even better for the visitors had Jonathan Williams shown more composure.

The cherry on the Chelsea cake. Cesc Fabregas lofts a ball over the top - it was too good to call it a long ball - and Diego Costa latches on to it before lofting an instinctive finish over Wojciech Szczesny.

Delightful play by Chelsea as Diego Costa holds the ball up and lays it off for Eden Hazard to slalom past three defenders before blazing an angled shot over.
