Former England defender Danny Mills' claim on BBC Radio 5 live that Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce is "not a great coach, not a great tactician and not a great motivator" has certainly got you tapping away on social media. Here's a selection of your thoughts:

Michael Harvey: Good old Danny Mills. There's nothing like kicking a man when he's down.

Paddy Emmerson: Danny Mills wasn't good enough to be a poor man's Stuart Pearce, yet take's a cowardly pop from behind his microphone?

Jonathan Butcher: Mills, don't annoy the red dogs just before our game!

It's not clear if this chap has just bought his ticket for next Saturday's FA Cup trip to Chelsea or today's League One clash at Yeovil. If it's the latter, it's time he hit the road for his 273-mile trip...

  8. Pearce points of viewpublished at 10:41 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2015

Libby Wain: As a Forest fan, I'm not sure I've ever been more worried about the derby. Could be humiliating...

Daniel Walford: Danny Mills, you've got it spot on about Pearce.

Mr Hind: Danny Mills appears to be very bitter towards Stuart Pearce. Did he put an average defender in his place?

Well, they have crossed paths in the past, Mr Hind. Pearce dropped Mills in 2006 when he was Manchester City manager, as Micah Richards emerged as the club's first-choice right-back. Mills has made it pretty clear that he doesn't think a whole lot of Pearce as a manager.

  9. 'Pearce is not a great coach'published at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2015

    Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Actually, he is not a great coach, he's not a great tactician, he's not a great motivator and he struggles with big players who question his authority.

"He is the complete opposite of what you expect. He has that aura around him of a legend but after 10 games or so people start to work him out. He doesn't have the depth of football ability to back it up."

  10. 'Players aren't stupid, they suss him out'published at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2015

    Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

"He comes in, everyone says, 'wow, it's Stuart Pearce, legend! Psycho' and all of that and he has that instant respect.

"He gets teams going and they buy into all of that. But after a while, players aren't stupid, they're not naive and they start to suss him out."

  11. 'He starts well but goes off the boil'published at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2015

    Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

"I'm not surprised about what has happened for him. Stuart Pearce came into Manchester City and had a fantastic 'honeymoon period' and then went wrong - same with the England Under-21s.

"He starts well but goes off the boil. He is very predictable, his tactics are to get the ball to the left-back and then hit the channels."

  12. Pearce under pressure?published at 10:28 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2015

Life isn't much fun at the moment for Stuart Pearce, who is Nottingham Forest's manager these days. His side have plummeted to 13th place after a run of seven league matches without a win, and also went out of the FA Cup at League One Rochdale two weeks ago.

Pearce is under the microscope after such a poor run, and former England defender Danny Mills - who played under him at Manchester City - had some harsh words to say about Forest's manager on BBC Radio 5 live last night. Are you ready for this? Then here goes...

  16. QPR have no visible strategy - Nevillepublished at 10:14 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2015

    Daily TelegraphImage source, Daily Telegraph

In today's Daily Telegraph,, external Gary Neville has criticised QPR's player recruitment strategy - or rather, as he feels, the lack of one. The former Manchester United and England full-back wonders if Harry Redknapp's side have the spirit to pull themselves out of relegation trouble.

"Very few of QPR's signings have sell-on value," Neville writes. "Charlie Austin has, but he, with a year to go on his contract, may be playing hard to get. They seem to pick up a lot of players in the twilight of their careers. Even Rio Ferdinand, who is sitting on the bench, must be wondering what the hell he is doing.

"At the other end of the scale, there is rarely a sniff of a young player coming through."

The Guardian, meanwhile, leads off with the story of former Barnsley captain Stephen Dawson,, external who suffered a nine-month ordeal as he was arrested and accused of match fixing, before the case against him was dropped.

"My daughter had kids coming up to her at school saying: 'Your dad's going to jail,'" said Dawson, now at Rochdale. "How do you explain to a seven-year-old that the police made a mistake and they won't be coming back to the house?"

Louis van GaalImage source, Getty Images

Jumping back to Louis van Gaal for a moment, there's an interesting piece on the Manchester United manager by Jamie Carragher in today's Daily Mail.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher points out that Van Gaal has collected just as many points (37) from just as many league games (21) as David Moyes had managed last season, but has escaped the criticism heaped on his predecessor.

Carragher writes:, external "There is a reason why Van Gaal is not having his performance - or the performances of his team - scrutinised to the level that Moyes experienced 12 months ago. It comes down to one word: belief."
