It looks like a Southampton change is imminent as Jack Cork is receiving some instructions in the dugout while the midfielder removes his tracksuit. This game certainly needs something, its been very flat since the resumption.

Now it is Newcastle's turn to embark on a couple of attacks but there is a distinct lack of creativity in the final third as Remy Cabella lashes a speculative effort high into the stands. Plenty of purpose about this Newcastle side, but very little bite.

Daniel Walford: Forest may have won today, but Danny Mills is correct in his analysis of Stuart Pearce. Limited ability is the key phrase here.

Shane Long: Stuart Pearce is a better manager than Danny Mills. Mills hasn't got the cojones to go into management

Matt Graham: I don't think Pearce is a great manager but he has a point, so many ex-player pundits say anything to get noticed.

Newcastle are into the Southampton area for the first time in this half as Yoan Gouffran plays a one-two with Daryl Janmaat, but the former is unable to wriggle through the Southampton backline and the ball is cleared.

One word for the opening few minutes of this half - cagey. Southampton are seeing more of the ball but, at the moment, are not getting much beyond the halfway line.

Former Man City and England full-back Danny Mills
    606 football phone-in on Radio 5 live

On the 606 phone-in, a Nottingham Forest fan calls Danny Mills an "egg-on-his-face pundit" and a "stalking jackal". Mills responds:

"I've said these things while Pearce was at Man City, while he was under-21s manager and being talked about for the main England job. This is a manager who played a keeper up front instead of a striker. That didn't go down well, and he did the same things at England. And when we did well as a side at City, he put all our good results down to a lucky horse at the side of the pitch!

"It's not personal, me and Stuart Pearce. But why should I apologise? It's my opinion."

"Newcastle started well, they had plenty of possession but the final delivery was always lacking and Southampton broke to score with their first real chance. You wondered where the equaliser was going to come from, and Yoann Gouffran certainly knew nothing about it when it did, but we are still no nearer to knowing which way this one is going to go."

Jonathan Pearce is not wrong, that first half was very even, although Newcastle shaded it in terms of chances. They had seven attempts on goal, three of those on target. Southampton, meanwhile, had two efforts on goal, one of those resulting in the opener.

On Ayoze Perez chance: "Unfortunately for Ayoze Perez the ball was just dying as it reached him, and he couldn't do much more than just get something on it, to try and help the ball go back where it came from by hitting it across the goalkeeper. He was unlucky, it was close. A great ball from Remy Cabella though."

QPR's under-pressure manager Harry Redknapp: "Do I look like I feel under pressure? When I get home I'll take my wife for a nice meal somewhere, have a nice bottle of wine, then in the morning wake up and take my dogs for a walk. My life's good. I don't like losing, but we worked very, very, very hard today. I couldn't have asked for more.

"I don't always speak to my chairman after a game. If he wants to talk he knows my number. I spoke to him yesterday or the day before - not a problem.

"What more can I have got out of my players today? Have a little look - my players never stopped working. They've been excellent. And you know what? We'll stay up. I've got no doubts about that. I'm bullish, I still think we'll be OK. I'm fine."
