Queens Park Rangers have signed  Watford defender Gabriele Angella on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Italian featured 35 times in Watford's promotion winning Championship campaign last year.

By "consider it", he clearly means "seize it with both hands".

Steve Martinasked: "Do you understand why Arsenal and Manchester United have failed to bring people in for centre-back and striker?"

Kevin says: "Well Manchester United are close to signing Anthony Martial now, while Arsenal play such an open and expansive game that you feel they really do need more pace at centre-back.

"Laurent Koscielny has pace but it’s something Per Mertesacker is lacking, although I do like Gabriel - maybe he could end up establishing himself as the long-term solution at centre-half.

"I’ll judge Francis Coquelin over two years but there does seem to be a reluctance to go into the market for a holding midfielder from Arsene Wenger, too. It has to be said though - there is a real shortage in the market. Teams can’t go out and buy ready-made stoppers."

Quite a lot of money going on defenders so far this Deadline Day. Ramiro Funes Mori, Papy Djilobodji, Richard Stearman, Jacob Butterfield and now Virgil van Dijk all going for big brass.

And I always thought today was one for panic buying strikers you've only seen on YouTube.

Ah, Mr Van Dijk, we've been expecting you. Confirmation has come that Southampton have signed Virgil van Dijk from Celtic.

The defender has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League club. No word on the fee, but there were reports of it being in the region of £11.5m.

British football writer Iain MacIntosh is on duty for Norwegian broadcaster TV 2. Judging by his laptop screen, he knows where to come for all the transfer news.

Judging by his expression, he feels the same way I do about the lack of action so far. There is still time yet, though. Three-and-a-half hours of it.

“The press in France are linking two Championship clubs with the same striker. Reports say Bolton and Blackburn Rovers want Clarck N'Sikulu of Evian. He scored five goals in the French top flight last season.

Press Association reporter Simon Peach has spotted this sign awaiting Roma striker Victor Ibarbo, who is expected to sign on loan today, at Heathrow Terminal Five.

Or maybe it is a rival club trying to 'hi-jack'/'kidnap' the deal.

News from Chelsea. The Blues are set to sign Reading centre-back Michael Hector for a fee of £4m.

The Jamaica international is likely to be loaned back to the Championship club.

That will be the champions' second centre-back signing of the day. Neither of them being John Stones.

Fulham have signed defender Richard Stearman from fellow Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old has penned a three-year deal at Craven Cottage with an option to extend it by another 12 months.

Some news emerging from Wales is that Swansea winger Nathan Dyer is currently on his way to Leicester to undergo a medical with a view to completing a season-long loan deal.

At one stage in this window it looked as though Dwight Gayle would beat Glenn Murray out of the Crystal Palace exit. Gayle is still a Palace player (although that could change depending on what reports you believe) and has wished his old mucker all the best at Bournemouth via Twitter...

Another one done and dusted. Wolves centre-back Richard Stearman moves to Craven Cottage on a three-year deal.
