“Still quiet in Scotland, although Virgil van Dijk's move to Southampton and Ryan Christie's move to Celtic are all but done pending completed medicals. Robbie Muirhead has moved from Dundee United to Partick Thistle on loan. Aberdeen don't expect to do any business, most likely only fringe players leaving Rangers on loan. Dundee United are looking to sign a striker, Hearts want to add one more player to their squad but could wait until the window has closed to assess free agents, and Hibernian are also keen to add to their squad, and are interested in the loan signing of Chelsea's Islam Feruz.

  3. Late drama at Arsenal?published at 13:04

You know you're in trouble when a whole airport is getting on your back.

Will the Gunners be making a late entry into the transfer market? It's happened before - think Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck...

Although it has to be said striker Oliiver Giroud doesn't look too concerned about the prospect of losing his place in Arsene Wenger's side...

Five hours to go people. Five hours to go.

These are the big headlines so far today...

Manchester United are set to complete the £36m signing of 19-year-old Monaco forward Anthony Martial.

David De Gea's £29m move from Manchester United to Real Madrid has collapsed.

Everton have signed defender Ramiro Funes Mori from Argentine club River Plate for £9.5m on a five-year deal.

West Ham have signed midfielder Alex Song on a season-long loan from Barcelona and added Chelsea's Victor Moses on another loan for the whole campaign.

Aston Villa have made an inquiry about signing Liverpool's Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori. Ilori, who joined Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon in a £7m deal in September 2013, has been out on loan at Grenada CF in La Liga and and Bordeaux in France after failing to secure first-team football at Anfield. It remains to be seen whether Villa pursue a loan or permanent deal for the 22-year-old who has also been attracting interest from Sunderland - or if he wishes to stay at Liverpool and fight his way into manager Brendan Rodgers' plans.

  6. Joe Ledley on the move?published at 12:54

Wales and Crystal Palace midfielder Joe Ledley is reportedly a target for former club Cardiff City and West Brom. Ledley is out of favour at Palace this season, making one League Cup start and one Premier League substitute appearance so far. The 28-year-old, who is currently with the Wales squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Cyprus and Israel, could leave on loan or a permanent transfer. Cardiff have dismissed the link, but West Brom have not categorically ruled out a move.

And what a beard. Look at it.

  7. 'Clubs used to forget about the human being'published at 12:53

You go back 10-15 years and clubs used to sign a player from abroad and forget about the human being. Juan Pablo Angel, who played for Villa, talks very well on this. His wife had a health problem and the club left him entirely to his own devices. I remember Hernan Crespo during his first spell at Chelsea, giving an interview with the home press and saying that the terrifying thing for him was the fella from the phone company coming round or taking my car to the garage to get fixed because he couldn't do these things. He was more worried about that than playing. The clubs have got much, much better and technology enables players to stay in touch with friends and family back home.

  8. Can a deadline day transfer work?published at 12:50

Earlier today we asked you to send in questions about transfer deadline day for former Everton and Republic of Ireland winger Kevin Kilbane.

Al Martin asked: "Can a deadline day signing really make an impact on a team?"

Kevin says: "History suggests that none of the bigger ones have been able to. Fernando Torres to Chelsea was a last-minute move, and Andy Carroll moved to Liverpool on deadline day.

"Maybe it's because the uncertainty of a deadline day move puts more pressure on the player over the next couple of months - it all happens very last minute.

"When you move to a new club there are a lot of things to sort out off the field and it can be difficult to get settled."

  9. Van Gaal has 'no philosophy'published at 12:45

Angel Di MariaImage source, Getty Images

Sticking with Manchester United and their former midfielder Angel Di Maria has been speaking about his time at the club and his words probably won’t make good reading for any potential new signings at Old Trafford.

In an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, external today he has accused Louis van Gaal of having “no philosophy”, which makes it “difficult to adapt to his system.”

“Everyone does what he wants,” Di Maria said. “I started very well with him, and then we had some clashes.

“Things did not go well and I was changed position. It is the coach who decided that, and in the end I found myself on the bench."

  10. De Gea stays?published at 12:45

The plot thickens. The Champions League tweet, supposedly confirming that David de Gea will be staying at Manchester United has now been deleted. Read into that what you wish.

  11. De Gea stays?published at 12:42

Following on from that last tweet, BBC Sport has spoken to La Liga, who responded with this short statement: "La Liga has not registered the player De Gea".

It is looking increasingly likely that Louis van Gaal and David de Gea have a bridge to build. I suspect it'll be about as sturdy as the one over that canyon at the end of Temple of Doom.

  12. De Gea stays?published at 12:35

And here is the latest on De Gea... he will remain a Manchester United player. There was talk of appeals to Uefa from United and Real Madrid, but it looks like these will have no impact on the Spain keeper's immediate future. It is going to be an interesting first day back on the training pitch for the 24-year-old.

Aside from the small matter of spending £36m on Anthony Martial to make him the world's most expensive teenager, Manchester United are not expected to make any further significant signings on deadline day. There are not expected to be any issues over Martial, who had his medical yesterday. Evidently the same cannot be said for the proposed £29m deal that would have seen David de Gea and Real Madrid's Keylor Navas change clubs. And with Victor Valdes' move to Besiktas falling through on Sunday, there is a chance Valdes and De Gea will remain team-mates, something it would have been impossible to imagine a week ago.

  14. Martial lawpublished at 12:30

Right, where are we at with the potential deal of the day: Anthony Martial to Manchester United? Well, our man Saj Chowdhury has dug out this nugget... Monaco say the deal is 80m euros (£58.75m) including bonus. The club were reluctant to sell him until United raised the initial fee they were willing to pay to 60m euros (£44m).

That is one almighty amount of cash for a 19-year-old. More eye-watering than a onion enema.

If you were on the move from your job how would you illustrate it? What clauses would you insert into your contract?

Tea-making bonuses? Desk by the window? We want your photographs and contract clauses.

Joel, Bristol:  Once inserted a clause into building contract stipulating bacon sandwiches to be served at 7.30am meetings. Contractor said on completion best clause ever - everyone turned up and was happy so productive.

Elton, London: At 28 I should be reaching my peak any day now. Two flat feet and slightly overweight, my right foot still packs quite a punch if I'm given 20-odd seconds to aim. Happy to play in any weather but prefer not to get muddy if at all possible. Just wanted all PL managers to know that I'm available having quit my job yesterday. A large tube of crisps and a chocolate bar will suffice for the signing-on fee.

"This young Welshman has the potential to be a decent Premier League defender, according to FM. He is ambitious with a high work rate but is poor in the air and needs a lot of nurturing. In my longest game - 10 years down the line - he is at Burnley, valued at £250k, and has decent stats as a limited defender. His career average is a paltry 6.49, though, and he has never even troubled the Premier League. A curious move from Manchester United, this one."

West Brom are denying reports that they're about to sign Jose Enrique from Liverpool. I understand there have been no advanced talks between club and player. No further movement on Saido Berahino's position. If Tottenham are to come in with a third bid, they're leaving it characteristically late. Joleon Lescott's expected to complete his move from West Brom to Aston Villa within a couple of hours, for a fee of £2m after add- ons.
