Today's deadline day was very quiet for Manchester City. I can't complain with the signings we've made this summer, and it was actually quite nice for once that everything wasn't left until the last minute! Kevin De Bruyne was our biggest signing at about £55m, with Raheem Sterling a close second at £49m and Nicolas Otamendi at £32m. Our other signings look promising too, so overall I'd say City have done some good business.

From James:  Young players sign for Chelsea because they get first team experience on loan but are signed to a big team, so they won't find themselves trapped at a small club like John Stones.

From Tony:  Manchester City must be looking at the transfer business of their rivals and quietly chuckling to themselves. They're going to run away with the title this season.

From Sam in Fleet:  Not good enough from Wenger yet again, we can only dream of the title.

    Simon March
    Fantasy Football Champion

"Manchester United’s latest £36m investment represents a profound statement of confidence in the hitherto quite unknown 19 year-old Anthony Martial. Will fantasy football managers follow suit?

"Much will depend on whether Martial is listed in the game as a midfielder or a forward. His ratio of roughly one goal every four games at Monaco is unlikely to immediately unsettle any existing fantasy forward lines but his attacking threat and creative output as a midfielder would make him a much more appealing prospect."

'We have to repair Saido damage'

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has spoken out about Saido Berahino's anger over his failed move to Spurs.

He said: “We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply. "Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August. “I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda.“Tottenham’s offers failed substantially to reflect Saido’s true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer.“Saido has been unsettled to the point where our Head Coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games.“We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode.”

Considering the big-name arrivals this summer, a quick look at the current Manchester United squad will show an improvement in one, if not two departments. The main area for concern is the lack of depth up front with a lot expected of new signing Anthony Martial, 19, given the astronomical fee paid to Monaco. David de Gea will return to Manchester needing to repair his relationship with Louis van Gaal and goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek. For the club's sake this is essential as none of the goalkeepers available for selection are in the same league.

From Nick in Wales: Why is no one ever in for Roma's Miralem Pjanic? High release fee I know but better than 90% of PL midfielders.

From Martin: Totally agree with David Pleat. Silly money being paid all over. £36m for who? Seems like if you're in the Champions League, add at least £10m.

From Paul in Leicester: Cretinous from Spurs. In May it was clear that our priorities were to sign at least one striker and a defensive midfielder. In September, with the window slammed shut, we still need both. Levy's dealings are an embarrassment to this club. The Rafael Van dear Vaart deal was a freak; a one-off; and not something to view as a blueprint for future transfer windows. Pathetic.

    Liverpool

As expected, deadline day was a quiet one for Liverpool. But having failed their primary objective for the day - getting shot of Jose Enrique - it can be deemed a disappointing end to the transfer window for Brendan Rodgers. Elsewhere, the decision to part with high-potential Portuguese centre-back Tiago Ilori - initially on loan to Aston Villa, but with a purchase clause reportedly included - is a poor one. At a time when Liverpool’s centre-back ranks are at their most vulnerable, Ilori could have been a useful option. One positive to come from the day is that Mamadou Sakho is still a Liverpool player."
