United's win was nervous. City's was confident and classy. This is a difficult place to come, but Manuel Pellegrini's men burst out of the blocks and then dug in when needed. It is an impressive way to seal your place in the last 16. With two games to go, no less.

"Job done. I think Manchester United played very well in the first half, controlled and dominated. But they lost their way in the early period in the second half. Then Anthony Martial was taken off which really shocked this place. Wayne Rooney was there to get that chance that was unmissable. So once again, Wayne Rooney - without  playing brilliantly - wins the game for United."

    Man United 1-0 CSKA Moscow

Game over. Job done. Just. For much of that match, United were struggling, short of ideas and stirring the ire of their own fans. But one Wayne Rooney goal later they are top of the group. Louis van Gaal slams an upturned thumb into the sky. He's happy.

Three minutes added at Old Trafford. CSKA have a corner. In it comes. Out it goes, off the head of Marouane Fellaini. But the ball comes back... straight into the grasp of David de Gea.

"This will give them a real opportunity to not only qualify but to maybe win the group which can make a big difference as we know."

And GOOD NEWS for Manchester United fans as PSV Eindhoven now lead Wolfsburg 2-0. So United will top the group on seven points if things stay the same. PSV and Wolfsburg would be on six.

    Man United 1-0 CSKA Moscow

We are into the last minute at Old Trafford. Imagine how angry the fans would be now if Rooney hadn't scored to end the 404 minutes they had gone previously without a goal. As it is, they are much more content. In fact, some are so confident they have left already. Some people... I ask you!

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:29

    Sevilla 1-3 Man City

Wilfried Bony's night is done. He gets a standing ovation from the City fans, which will boost him after coming in for some stick of late. His replacement is Fabian Delph, back after injury.

Still just the one goal in it at the Bernabeu. That goalkeeping mistake by Kevin Trapp looks enough to ensure Real Madrid guarantee they progress.

Paris St-Germain are pressing but under Rafa Benitez, Real look well organised, compact and resolute.

Manchester City are doing a fine job in Seville to keep the Spanish side at bay and see this game out. Are we looking at a very good night for Mancunian clubs in Europe?

  16. 'A stunning relief'published at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2015

    Man Utd 1-0 CSKA

    Pat Nevin
BBC Radio 5 live at Old Trafford

"Do you think there;s a fair chance Louis van Gaal may feel a wee bit smug at the moment. Rooney has not done well in this second half. The fans wanted him taken off not Anthony Martial.

"What a relief. A stunning relief considering they had only just nearly lost a goal."

Joy, relief, a mixture of both. United were so nearly behind but now they lead. It is a wonderful first-time volleyed cross from Jesse Lingard, following a cross-field pass, that gives Wayne Rooney just the keeper to beat, which he does with a header into the roof of the net. Louis van Gaal is out of his seat. Of course he is!

  18. Postpublished at 21:20

    Man United 0-0 CSKA Moscow

Never mind hearts in mouths. United hearts were 10 yards above their heads as Seydou Doumbia gets away and runs in on goal. His first effort is saved by David de Gea but the striker seems destined to slot in the rebound until Chris Smalling's slide to block. Old Trafford gives a collective 'phew!'

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:18

    Sevilla 1-3 Man City

Perhaps Sevilla are happy to see Kevin de Bruyne come on after all. That's because Raheem Sterling, who has ran them ragged all night with his pace and movement, is the man replaced. Little over 15 minutes left in southern Spain. City through as it stands. Three important little words there....

  20. Postpublished at 21:18

    Man United 0-0 CSKA Moscow

Less than 15 minutes to go at Old Trafford. The play is almost exclusively in the CSKA half. But the Russians are holding out. Memphis Depay looks to cross into the box from the left but somehow manages to miss the 18-yard area, instead planting his ball into the stand behind the goal.
