More from Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports: "In my experience, Liverpool don't like sacking managers.

"As soon as it's going on a downward spiral for a manager it's best to make a change. It may have been harsh to sack Brendan in the summer but it was always difficult to turn it around.

"It would have been better to have a clean break."

Autographz: Honestly, if it wasn't for Luis Suarez having the best year of his life, Brendan Rodgers would've been sacked ages ago.

Brendan Rodgers took charge of Liverpool in June 2012. He was named LMA Manager of the Year after leading the club on a title challenge that fell just short in his second season at the club, finishing second to Manchester City.

Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage last season, before finishing sixth in the Premier League.

This season, Liverpool have won three of their eight Premier League games.

Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragheron Sky Sports: “It hasn’t gone well for him and he needed to make a good start this season. He was maybe fortunate to stay on at the end of last season.

"I don’t like doing it now. Do it in the summer if you want to make a change. He’ll have known himself that he had to make a good start and he hasn’t.

"The natives are restless. At this moment the owners' track record over the last two or three years is not good enough. It’s miles off. Rodgers can’t argue in some ways. He’s been there three years, he hasn’t won a trophy and they’ve played Champions League football once. That’s not good enough for Liverpool.

"He has lost big players but he has reinvested money and very few of his signings have come off. Liverpool are becoming Tottenham They think they are a big club but the real big clubs aren’t concerned about what they do. What are these owners going to do to get the club back to where it needs to be?"

“I'm stunned. They gave him a load of money in the summer and I find it amazing. But with all due respect I don’t see why they gave Brendan Rodgers the job in the first place.

"Liverpool go out and buy the best young players, develop them and then hope to sell them. They have become a selling club."

Brendan Rodgers has had his contract terminated as manager of Liverpool.

Louis van Gaal on Match of the Day: "It was a very bad start, without aggression and the will to win. That is the first time I have seen that from my team. I did not expect that.

"We have won our last four matches, I gave the players a day off because they were tired. On Saturday the training was normal, I was very amazed to see that.

"All teams will have a dip."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal speaking to Sky Sports: “When you start like that you can never win a game, we  lost every duel, every second ball, not tight on their midfielder, and they can play they are a fantastic team when you let them give them that space it is difficult.

“That was the worse United have been under me, we were not able to give a normal performance. 

“I have never seen that of my team, that is the question I put to my players. You can not solve that now, a lot of emotion and I am emotional as well.

“I could not change anything, if it was just one player then I can take measure but it was more than half of my team who were not doing what we had agreed in our game plan.

Arsene Wenger on Match of the Day: "We started strong and pressed very high. 

"We did not give them any chances to score and that was vital. We surprised them with our start.

"From Petr Cech to Theo Walcott we only had superb performances. I have managed many strong teams and never had one that played 60 games at the same level. You have to accept that, we are human beings."

The only thing missing from Theo Walcott's game today was a goal, otherwise he led the line superbly. 

The striker misplaced just two of his passes (red arrow) and provided two assists (blue arrows).

Arsenal's Theo Walcott speaking to Sky Sports: “There was a desire from kick-off, we looked very strong and were dominating at home against a big team and we should be playing like that every week. The players will be aching after that one, we worked so hard and rightly so.

"That was all for the manager.

"That first-half we were unbelievable, no-one could have dealt with us, it was the best football I have ever been involved in. It was the Arsenal of old."

Arsenal are the only team to win in the Premier League today, with Everton and Liverpool drawing 1-1 earlier, and then Swansea and Tottenham sharing a 2-2 draw in the other 16:00 BST kick-off.
