Another of the memorable clashes between these two sides was the so-called Battle of the Buffet in 2004.

Arsenal, bidding for a 50th game unbeaten, lost 2-0 at Manchester United and tempers boiled over in the tunnel after the match, with United manager Alex Ferguson getting a pizza to the face via the hand of a cheeky Arsenal player, later alleged to be Cesc Fabregas.

You can get some good insight on the incident in our piece from last year here.

All over in the Merseyside derby with honours even. Danny Ings' opener for Liverpool was cancelled out by Rumalu Lukaku's goal for Everton.

Not a classic, can this fixture elevate today to super Sunday status?

A Premier League title win will be starting to feel like a long, long time ago for Arsenal fans, but memories of sealing the 2001-02 championship will no doubt still provide them with a warm, fuzzy feeling.

After winning their 12 previous games, the Gunners sealed the Premier League title at, of all places, Old Trafford when Sylvain Wiltord struck the game's only goal.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas: "Every team is lacking the consistency that you need to win the league. The team closest to that is  Manchester United, which is why they have made huge steps this season.

"If Ashley Young does line-up at right-back then he will have an interesting afternoon against Alexis Sanchez, he is Arsenal's best player.

"With McNair and Jones on the bench, there must be something happen in training that is making Van Gaal not feel they are ready to start in defence."

Arsene Wenger is undoubtedly under a bit of pressure. This is supposed to be the season Arsenal finally end their long wait for another Premier League title.

However, the Gunners currently find themselves sixth in the table, five points behind leaders Manchester City and below West Ham. They also go into today's game on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos in the Champions League, a defeat that has been described, external as "shambolic".

"We learn from victory and we learn from defeat," said Wenger prior to today's game. "There are three points between the teams [Arsenal and United], we play at home in a big game."

A big game no doubt, so what team has Wenger gone for? Time to find out...

For years Arsenal versus Manchester United has been one of highlights of a Premier League season.

From Pizzagate in 2004 to Manchester United's brutal 8-2 win at Old Trafford in 2011, the meeting of these two sides more often than not guaranteed goals, flare ups and moments of controversy.

That hasn't quite been the case in recent seasons, no-one really gets excited about Mesut Ozil versus Marouane Fellaini in the same way as seeing Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira slug it out.

However, this year's meeting is not without its spice because, arguably, it is a game that Arsene Wenger has to win...
