That's all from us tonight then - NO FOOTBALL TOMORROW but we shall see you back on Friday for the FA Cup. See you there.

Manuel Pellegrini believes that Kevin de Bruyne has not suffered a cruciate ligament injury tonight but I would remain cautious until a proper diagnosis is made.

Let's hope for the best though. He's had an excellent first season in England thus far.

  3. Good news for De Bruyne?published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2016

    Or 'not-as-bad-as-it-could-be news' maybe...

Chris Martin: "Heartbreaking" is that we would "take inspiration" from a display that yielded four shots. Loss down to City creating more chances.

Joe Forsyth: I think even Tim Peake could see that ball was out of play. No excuses

  5. 'It was a big call'published at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January 2016

Man City 3-1 Everton (Agg: 4-3)

    Everton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on Sky Sports:

"It was a good game of football, we scored the first goal, got in a great position. It was a big call for their second goal, heartbreaking, when you watch the replay it is incredible you don't get the decision right.

"It is impossible how you describe when you saw a decision once more, so clear and so big, it is heartbreaking, I don't think anyone in the stadium would disagree that goal is the major, major change in the tie.

"In the replay it doesn't leave you with any doubt, the ball is clearly out and should never be allowed to carry on.

"We should take this as an inspiration to do something special because that call cost us. We played with an incredible swagger and character."

Was Sergio Aguero fouled by Ramiro Funes Mori in the build up to Ross Barkley's opener tonight? It was a strong challenge, that's for sure. But Everton had an awful lot to do before the goal from there...

Andrew Young: I back Martinez 100%. He's building for the future, supporting young players, & cultivating stylish football. Success will come

Liz Tray: Ball was out but Sergio was clattered before their first goal and Navas didn't get a stonewaller in 1st leg. Hit post twice too

Under maintenance: why are you going on about de bruyne goal but totally overlooking the foul on aguero before Everton scored

Do we have the worst linesmen in the world in England? Man City, Stoke, Chelsea... And that seems to have just been the last few weeks!

Just for the record, let me state that Kevin de Bruyne's goal clearly should not have been allowed...

Well done Man City but what I don't understand is why you, the media, are not challenging the sport of football by allowing a goal that should be disallowed to stand. It's not the ref's fault but, in my view you should be advocating for change rather than glibly allowing such goals to stand when coverage shows it shouldn't

    Paul Treble

KDB has been a superb signing for a superb side. He was superb tonight, gutted about the injury and I hope it doesn't keep him out for too long so he can be superb again.

    Superb John. Superb.

Man City 3-1 Everton (Agg: 4-3)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez:

"Everyone that has seen the replay can clearly see the ball is out of play. The tie was a real good football game. You don’t expect to concede a goal in that manner. It's very, very hard to take.

"City are a very good side. If they score three goals in the right way then you accept it. The first goal was a deflected shot, but the second goal the ball was clearly out before it was crossed in.

"We have a very good group of young players. I hope we take this display as inspiration."

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "I am very happy, to play a final at Wembley, it is very important.

"We deserved to be in the final, we had just one defeat - that was against Everton with a clear penalty.

"They scored at 1-0 and it was a clear foul. If you think because of that ball [Sterling to de Bruyne], that is not why we won.

"We won because we scored three goals and Everton had just one chance."

As the TV pundits show him footage of Raheem Sterling's cross he says 'maybe it is out but that is not the reason why we won.'

What a signing KDB has been, 12 assists and 12 goals this season. Hopefully he's back soon!

    Sam, Manchester.

Two shocking decisions over the two legs. Fortunately didn't cost Liverpool as it cost Everton. Gutted no Merseyside final!

    Jack, Lancashire

Roberto Martinez has completely lost the fan base now, Goodison is going to be a wretched place at our next home game. A Merseyside derby final as the prize and the same old slack defending and lack of bottle. We can wave farewell to Lukaku and Stones, though the latter keeps on making mistakes.

Let's hope that this injury to Kevin de Bruyne is not as serious as unfortunately it did look.

With Manchester City going for four titles, and Belgium well fancied in the Euros this summer, a significant absence would be painful for club and country.
