Si Banstead: Feel sorry for Everton tonight. Officials were awful and incompetent

Paul Fearon: Tell you what, John Terry's offside goal and Sterling's off the pitch assist is almost enough to make you give up on football

Allan Abbas: Very sorry for De Bruyne, came on from the bench and produce a man of the match display in minutes before being injured

What a great cup tie, over both legs. Manchester City's ammunition on the bench proved crucial in the end but the whole night could be overshadowed by that injury to Kevin de Bruyne.

"What a game! Everton were superb in the first half, devastating on the counter attack. But you have to see the substitutions were key. Kevin de Bruyne came on and changed the game. The ball was out of play for City's second goal and that has cost Everton."

Man City 3-1 Everton (Agg: 4-3)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Etihad

Everton have been stunned by those two goals - particularly as the ball appeared to be out before Kevin De Bruyne's second - but they still have time to rescue this.

One goal from them sends this into extra-time but they simply cannot mount an attack at the moment. Romelu Lukaku has been isolated all night and has had little or no impact.

Everton's substitutions have not worked, Manchester City's really have. It helps when you have a £50m+ player on the bench of course.

The decision to award Kevin de Bruyne's goal is a massive elephant in the room though. Poor decision.
