  1. 'What a selection from Aitor Karanka!'published at 21 mins

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Brighton

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain at Riverside Stadium, Radio 5 live sports extra

"The roof has just come off here!

"Brighton conceded a needless free-kick, the ball was played back across and there was Stuani to put it into the back of the goal.

"And what a selection from Aitor Karanka! Brighton have to keep their heads here..."

What was I saying earlier (see 7 mins entry) about David Nugent and Cristhian Stuani repaying Aitor Karanka's faith?

GOAL - Middlesbrough 1-0 Brightonpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

    Cristhian Stuani

First blood to Boro! A free-kick from the right is swung to the back post where David Nugent is well-placed to push a first-time ball back across goal and give Cristhian Stuani a simple finish into an unguarded net. Some Brighton players protest that a Boro player may have been offside from the free-kick but it is in vain. The Riverside erupts.

  3. 'Good pressure from Brighton'published at 17 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain at Riverside Stadium, Radio 5 live sports extra

"Do you know how long it's been since Brighton played in the top flight? Quite a while... because I played against them!

"Good pressure at the moment from the Seagulls. Their 4-4-2 system is working very well and they have settled down. If anything you'd say that Middlesbrough, who have made a few changes, look the more unsettled.

"Mind you, no real chances as yet and pretty even-stevens. This game needs just one spark of brilliance."

  4. Championship latestpublished at 12:48

No goals yet in the big game at the Riverside. The visiting side have had the best of it so far, though.

A handful of goals have gone in around the Championship. Sergi Canos has given Brentford the lead at Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest are 1-0 up at MK Dons thanks to Chris Cohen's goal and David Cotterill has made it Cardiff 0-1 Birmingham. Wolves have a one-goal advantage over Sheffield Wednesday because of a Michael Turner own goal. Blackburn lead Reading 2-0. Elliott Bennett and Danny Graham with the goals.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 12:45

    Norwich 0-0 Man Utd

Alex Neil must be sweating. Nothing to do with the heat of a relegation battle, mind. He's wearing one of those long-sleeve skin tops in about 20C heat. Madness.

Delia is looking more summery, sporting a Canary-coloured floral dress. Another Norwich fanatic looks skywards, eyes closed, demanding some divine inspiration today. That's what this means.

    Game on!

Based on the logic of this season - if Sunderland can beat the drop then they might well be champions next year. They tick all the "Leicester boxes" and if they can avoid the drop will be mirroring LCFC's previous season. Loyal and long suffering fans, foreign owner, little previous success in terms of trophies, a (generally) respected and (slightly) ageing manager who has been around the block a bit and not always been well treated by former employers, a selection of decent English-qualified players in their squad who really have not achieved their potential to date including a pacy and predatory centre forward. Yup, Sunderland to be EPL champions for 2017/18 season! (If they can stay up this season of course) You heard it here first!

BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter

"Nothing can be settled today in terms of relegation, but time is running out so there's no margin for error. Sunderland are the team with destiny in their own hands.

"Whoever gets relegated, financially it will be a massive, massive hit. Next season the team that finishes bottom of the Premier League will still receive £90m.

    "Today, therefore, is pivotal."

Drama at Carrow Road! And the game has not even started...

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial pulls up in the warm-up and won't play. A tight hamstring apparently. He will be replaced by Ander Herrera.

Big boost for relegation-threatened Norwich. Big blow for Fantasy Football managers across the land ahead of a double gameweek...

"Both sides have had opportunities to secure that automatic promotion spot, but both teams have failed to do it. It shows both clubs have nerves, have weaknesses.
