    Championship

Nine months of blood, sweat and tears comes to an end today. Well, for 20 of the 24 Championship clubs at least.

Play-off contenders Hull, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday all face at least another two games - possibly three - as well as Middlesbrough or Brighton (you know all about that scenario, don't you?).

Already-promoted Burnley go to condemned Charlton, who will be looking to leave for League One in style by stopping the Clarets winning the title.

The two other teams waving goodbye to the Championship are MK Dons and Bolton. MK host Nottingham Forest, with Bolton - preparing for their first season in the third tier since 1992-93 - going to Fulham.

Oh, and there's one other minor thing left to play for. Either Hull or Derby, who host Rotherham and Ipswich respectively, will finish fourth and nab home advantage in the second leg of their play-off clash.

Sorry to harp on about Norwich versus Manchester United but, well, that's my job. Just one last bit...

Louis van Gaal's job looked severely under threat when the Red Devils lost to Norwich in December and now he wants revenge as his team chase a top-four finish.

"We have to win our matches because otherwise we cannot be in the first four - that's the pressure that we have," he said.

"Norwich won at Old Trafford, so we have to take revenge. It's always difficult to fight against a team that fights to maintain their position in the Premier League. We have to cope with that."

So, Norwich know a win in the early kick-off against Manchester United will move them out of the bottom three - heaping pressure on Newcastle and Sunderland before their matches this afternoon.

A repeat of his side's surprise victory at Old Trafford earlier this season would do the trick...

"It comes no bigger than this, it really is crunch time now. There is no room for excuses, we've got to go out and do the job," says Canaries boss Alex Neil.

"The players know exactly where we are. They gave it their best efforts against Arsenal, and I expect exactly the same this weekend."

"One Carrow Road memory still makes me tingle.

"It was 9 April 2005. Tea time. I'd backed Hedgehunter to win the Grand National that day. Ruby Walsh romped home by 14 lengths. Manchester United were expected to romp it at bottom club Norwich to maintain their title hopes. The Canaries had lost five in a row.

"But the place was jumping. Dean Ashton and Leon McKenzie scored in a 2-0 win. That day Norwich could dream of a miracle. They need one now.

"This is a 'long goodbye' game. A home defeat would signal almost certain relegation. United can kiss farewell to the top four if they lose. Where's Ruby Walsh when you need him?"

  12. 'My hope is we won't see him again in the Premier League'published at 10:44 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

Fellaini and HuthImage source, Rex Features

Speaking of Marouane Fellani's ban, Jamie Carragher's column in the Daily Mail, external is well worth a read today - the former Liverpool defender is less than impressed with the three-game ban handed to the Manchester United midfielder by the FA for elbowing Leicester's Robert Huth.

"It can't be right that he will be available for Manchester United's big day against Crystal Palace [in the FA Cup final] on 21 May," says Carragher. "My personal hope is that we would never see him playing in the Premier League again.

"Three games is not a sentence that will prove a deterrent to Fellaini. He is a repeat offender and it has gone beyond the point now where people can attempt to defend him by saying he is a tall lad who is using his arms for leverage."

Norwich v Man Utd (12:45 BST)

Norwich will make a late decision on Ryan Bennett, who is still struggling with the illness which ruled him out of last weekend's defeat by Arsenal.

The Canaries will again be without injured pair Timm Klose and Alexander Tettey on Saturday.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is suspended after accepting a violent conduct charge following an off-the-ball clash against Leicester.

Long-term absentees Luke Shaw and Bastian Schweinsteiger remain out.

  14. 'De Gea should be winning trophies'published at 10:37 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

Norwich v Man Utd (12:45 BST)

Where would Manchester United be without David de Gea? It is a question United fans will hope they never have to answer.

"There were question marks in the first year but he is getting better and better every week," says former Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given.

"Can they keep him in the summer? Is he totally happy finishing fifth and maybe winning the FA Cup? He should be winning leagues and trophies.

“Goalkeeping is all about confidence and self-belief – what goes on between the ears. At the start of his United career he could have gone under and gone back to Spain, but he has learned from his mistakes and gone on to amazing levels.”

  15. 'Van Gaal's case to stay has got stronger'published at 10:33 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

Norwich v Man Utd (12:45 BST)

Will Louis Van Gaal stay? Will Van Gaal go? Will Jose Mourinho come in? Or will Mourinho be still weeding his garden next season? Questions, questions, questions.

“My concern with Mourinho – yes, he is one of the best managers of the world – is his life span at every single club is very short. He comes in and wins trophies but he leaves the club in a lesser position with the players he has brought in," Shay Given tells 5 live Sport.

“They have brought in a phenomenal amount of young kids and now seen a fresh crop of young players come through because Van Gaal has brought them through.

“If United finish top four and win the FA Cup that will be progress. As the season has gone on, the case has got stronger for Van Gaal to stay on."

  17. 'A draw would lift Norwich'published at 10:26 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

Norwich v Man Utd (12:45 BST)

“Norwich have still got a game in hand - they have got as big a chance of staying up as anyone," says former Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given.

“Everyone has them down already – they could use that to take pressure off the players and say ‘look, the whole country says we’re getting relegated, we’ve got to prove these people wrong’.

“I think they’ve got a chance against Manchester United. A draw can give them a big lift ahead of the last two games."

  18. 'Norwich must create more chances'published at 10:21 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

Norwich v Man Utd (12:45 BST)

Norwich have been more toothless than Joe Jordan this season - hence why they are struggling to stay up. Only Villa and West Brom have scored fewer goals so far in the Premier League.

“I’ve played in teams similar to Norwich where you’re playing one up front, you’re trying to be dogged and resolute, and there’s not many chances going around," former Blackburn and West Brom striker Jason Roberts tells 5 live Sport.

“That’s what you’ve seen with Norwich's strikers, there has not been a load of chances and then when one chance arrives they snatch at it because they’ve not had a chance for a couple of games.

“It is always difficult. But they have to create more chances.”

Two weekends remaining, two teams set to fall from grace. Aston Villa, as we know, are already down and out, but three other teams are on the precipice, hanging on to Premier League survival by their fingertips. This is a crucial weekend.

Newcastle, Sunderland, Norwich - all three are in trouble and only one will survive.
