It is a semi-final that will disappoint Wales fans and players for years to come. They never really laid a glove on Portugal, who just did enough. The suspicion before the game was that Portugal's know-how and nous would prove to be the difference, and that's how it unfolded.

This is not a great Portugal team, by any stretch. But they are in the final and will now face either hosts France or World Champions Germany.

Wales' epic journey has come to an end but what an adventure it's been. It’s a kiss on both cheeks to France, Wales are bowing out. Au revoir, it’s been a delight.

The Portuguese players are in a circle jumping up and down, except for Cristiano Ronaldo who is in conference with his Real Madrid team-mate Gareth Bale.

It looks to be an earnest and frank exchange, with a long hug and handshake to end it.

Richard: Nothing but pride for my country and our players. See you in September for the World Cup campaign.

Gareth Bale is in the book as he catches Cedric Soares with a high boot, a kick in the face as the full-back charged in to clear. No complaints.
