Joe Ledley swings it in, low to find Gareth Bale peeling away from the six-yard box and he whips a shot over the top.

    Good effort.

Former Wales captain on BBC Radio 5 live

Portugal just look that little bit sharper than Wales at the minute. Joe Ledley just let his runner go there as Joao Mario had a shot on goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo's not really been at his best at the tournament so far but he looks very lively tonight.

The closest we have come to a goal as Joao Mario makes a break from midfield, he gets away from Joe Ledley and hits an early shot from wide on the right. He gets hold of it but it's always heading wide and Wayne Hennessey is able to watch it go...

    Portugal 0-0 Wales

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Lyon

No - not the fact that both teams are in unfamiliar second strips. There are a lot of empty seats inside the stadium here. Hard to explain when so many Wales fans, and supporters of Portugal no doubt, were in the city in search of tickets today.

  6. 'Wales happy to sit back'published at 20:15 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

    Portugal 0-0 Wales

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

This is how Wales have been starting games. They're happy to let Portugal dictate the play, but they have to get through the early period of pressure, soak it up.

Three men converge on Cristiano Ronaldo and Ashley Williams emerges with the ball. Are Wales digging in for the long haul here?

Not the brightest start. Wales have barely had the ball anywhere near Portugal's penalty area yet...

It's been a nervy start hasn't it? It's been like a game of chess where both players are just waiting for the other to make a mistake.

A great touch for you there Dave. Mind you I hope he didn't rush...

Portugal are in control so far. Bossing the play.

David Emmerson: Just coming round following operation. Having Welsh surgeon helped to ensure would all be done by 8pm

That's why Collins is in there. Strong. He matches Ronaldo and gets to the header first. There was a little bit of pushing but it was on both sides, they were both at it.

Gareth Bale has been anonymous so far but here he is, popping up on the left and hitting a fine early ball over the top, it's Andy King breaking from midfield but he can't quite gather it in.

James Collins will have to be careful. That could have been a penalty to Portugal.

If anyone told Andrea Pirlo that Joe Allen is sometimes compared to him - based on this opening 10 minutes - he'd give you a withering stare.

James Collins then defends really well to beat Cristiano Ronaldo to a cross! Superb from the West Ham man.

He actually had Ronaldo in a headlock on second viewing....

It's a definite booking for Joe Allen. Sloppy, a little bit nervous. Sometimes on such a big stage your legs don't go as quickly as your brain wants them to. I've been there myself.

Hal Robson-Kanu loses his man with a lovely turn - again - but also again Joe Allen loses the ball needlessly in the centre circle and as he tries to recover he can only volley Nani through his calf.

A stonewall booking. In you go.

I don't know what the ref is doing here, he's lost the plot. First Ronaldo should get a free-kick and then Fonte handballs it as the ball's played long down the other end, but again there's no whistle. Two ridiculous decisions already!

A period of play for Portugal now as Renato Sanches gets on the ball. He joined Bayern Munich before the Euros started. That's all you need to know.
