    West Ham 1-1 Middlesbrough

It is no coincidence that when West Ham play well, Dimitri Payet plays well. And that has not happened for a while.

But when the struggling Hammers needed some inspiration, Payet produced.

Middlesbrough took the lead through Cristhian Stuani's header, before the France attacking midfielder sashayed past four defenders into the away box and drilled in to end a rot of four successive defeats.

"I don't see many players scoring these type of goals. This was like Messi's goals," said Hammers boss Slaven Bilic, whose side remain third bottom.

  6. David Herd passes awaypublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

Manchester United v Stoke (12:00 BST)

Both teams will wear black armbands at Old Trafford today following the death of David Herd at the age of 82.

The Scottish striker was a key player in the United team which won its first trophy after the Munich disaster in 1958, scoring twice in a 3-1 victory over Leicester at Wembley in the 1963 final.

Herd had joined the Red Devils from Arsenal, having begun his career with Stockport County, and also had spells at Stoke and Waterford United in Republic of Ireland.

After a brief managerial spell at Lincoln in the early 1970s, Herd spent the remainder of his working days running car garages in Manchester and retired in 1999.

    Swansea 1-2 Liverpool

Is the end nigh for Francesco Guidolin? The Swansea manager's position has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks - and a late Liverpool winner stretched his side's winless run to a sixth Premier League match.

Leroy Fer gave the hosts a first-half lead before Roberto Firmino levelled shortly after half-time. And James Milner converted from the spot to move the Reds into second place.

"I am sure in the future this team can turn this situation," said Guidolin, whose side are 17th. "I am worried for the table, not my position."

  10. Speaking of Troy Deeney...published at 10:44 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    England call?

Watford striker Troy Deeney should be given a chance by England if there are any more injuries, says Alan Shearer.

Shearer, who scored 30 goals in 63 appearance for England, said Hornets skipper Deeney had impressed him with his character as well as his play.

"He is an integral part to how Watford play. I like the way he leads that team and drags them around," Shearer told Match of the Day.

"If there's another injury then he should be given an opportunity."

Fellow Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas believes an ankle ligament injury to first-choice England striker Harry Kane may give Deeney a chance in this month's World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.

Interim England manager Gareth Southgate names his squad for those matches on Sunday.

Stoke's plight without Jack Butland has got me thinking about who are the truly irreplaceable players in the Premier League.

Beyonce may have put the notion to one side and suggested that nobody is irreplaceable, but has she ever managed a top-flight club between transfer windows? Not to my knowledge.

So which players would your club be sunk without? Despite the millions of pounds sloshing around on your bench, most teams have one player for whom a lengthy injury spell out would spell disaster.

Sometimes the importance of your goalkeeper can get overlooked. But consider the case of Jack Butland and Stoke.

He was playing for England in Berlin when he broke his ankle, which consequently seems to have broken Stoke City.

Mark Hughes' side won one game in the final seven games of last season without him. And none so far this term.

Without Jack Butland Stoke have conceded 33 goals in 13 games. THIRTY-THREE!

Leicester conceded 36 last season. In total.

Stoke's record sans Butland is a horror show:

Manchester United v Stoke (12:00 BST)

    Steve Bower
    Match of the Day commentator

Jose Mourinho will be aiming for Manchester United to get close to replicating last weekend's first-half display, while Mark Hughes will be hoping his former club are more in the mode of Thursday's laboured Europa League victory.

The opening 45 minutes against Leicester last weekend has set the standard for Mourinho's United. The crowd responded too, the stadium was a throwback to you know who. The handbrake was well and truly released.

They will be confident of accelerating against Stoke - a side that has conceded four times on three occasions this season. Defensive shape will have been top of their training list this week; Stoke simply have to stay in the game.

  14. Today's actionpublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

The Stoke players have just clambered from their team bus, at this hour on a Sunday, and headed into the vast Old Trafford tunnel. A tricky breakfast to get right for the nutritionists.

The noon start begins a busy day, with plenty of big names on display. Settle in for this lot:

Manchester United v Stoke (12:00 BST)

    Leicester v Southampton (14:15 BST)

Tottenham v Manchester City (14:15 BST)

    Burnley v Arsenal (16:30 BST)

One big name signing who has failed to perform. One star goalkeeper still on the treatment table. One manager feeling the pressure. One set of miserable fans heading up the M6 early on a Sunday morning.

It's been a grim start to the season for Stoke City and her supporters. Is there any Sunday lunchtime joy to be had from a trip to Manchester United?
