It’s like school football. That’s probably one of the worst passages of play I’ve ever seen. A lesson in how not to find a man from your own side – absolutely diabolical.

Yannick Bolasie has the ball down the right flank. He has little on so tries to beat his man and deliver but it's into the near post where Adrian is waiting to bear hug the ball.

You get the sense Winston Reid has been told to stay ultra tight on Romelu Lukaku. He's breathing on the back of his neck and as the Everton man tries to turn he's met by the giant defender.

Romelu Lukaku (left) and Manuel Lanzini (right) are struggling to influence affairs.

Lukaku has had 13 touches, the fewest on the pitch. Lanzini has 14 and is not getting on the ball enough in midfield. Ironically, the two players have had good chances but their wider game has not had any substance.

Lukaku is flagged offside as we reach 42 minutes.

Ramiro Funes Mori is up for a corner and flicks a header well wide. He managed four goals for the Toffees last season but is yet to break his duck this term.

Good alert goalkeeping by Adrian as Kevin Mirallas gets a cross wrong so it threatens the top corner. A good tip over. From the corner the keeper is down low to gather another delivery. Suddenly we are seeing a lot more from Yannick Bolasie and Everton's support acts to Kevin Mirallas.

An Everton corner causes some mayhem and runs all the way through to Gareth Barry at the back stick, he tees up Ross Barkley and he shoots over via a deflection. It's much more even now, Everton have remembered they have to compete.

Andy White: What a great save from Adrian. Goes someway to being forgiven for wearing orange tights on a mild day.

Babatunde: My goodness! What's up with the Premier League goalkeepers? How on earth has Adrian saved that?

Lots of praise for West Ham goalkeeper Adrian after that Ross Barkley save. After Tom Heaton's performance against United yesterday, you have to wonder if it could be another one of those days...

Some drama and controversy. Idrissa Gueye has done a Steven Gerrard and lost possession when deep in his own half with no one behind him. Pedro Obiang robbed him and charges at goal but some wrestling by Gueye sees the West Ham man hit the deck. It's a yellow card as there were defenders coming around on the cover.

A calamity by Gueye and he is suspended now for their fixture with Chelsea.

A quick look at the average positions West Ham players have taken up shows it's Michail Antonio leading the line with Dimitri Payet offering the nearest support. Mark Noble (16) is their deepest midfielder.

Dimitri Payet puts in a devilish free-kick delivery and Ashley Williams has to stoop at the back stick to head it clear. In it comes again from the other flank... too deep.

Yannick Bolasie has chosen to wear gloves, his cross here is long and gets put back into the mixer by Bryan Oviedo. Ross Barkley picks it up in the area, he wriggles space expertly with a drop of the shoulder...shoots...brilliant save.

There was a deflection on it too so Adrian, I am applauding you my man. Terrific reflexes.

Ross Barkley picks the ball up in midfield and he can play forward here, some space for him at last. He watches Romelu Lukaku peel left and finds him. Lukaku has company but elects to shoot and Cheikhou Kouyate does his job well to deflect for a corner. In comes the delivery, Adrian can catch that in his sleep.

Payet has been dominant so far, much more so than Everton would want.

He doesn’t get the credit he should – I think everyone just thinks he can take free-kicks and corners, but he’s a quality player.

Ramiro Funes Mori needs a ticket to get back into the ground. Manuel Lanzini just left him stood like a statue in the area with a lovely dip of the shoulder. Lanzini's approach play was sublime but his finish is off target from a good position, some 14 yards from goal.

Everton leading a charmed life you feel. They look like a side who haven't quite woken up just yet.

Romelu Lukaku will be kicking himself. Idrissa Gueye fizzed a shot at goal from 20 yards and Lukaku could not quite bring the wayward strike under his spell. The touch is heavy and the chances goes. He was onside, eight yards out.

This is how West Ham have lined up. Michail Antonio the striker charged with occupying defenders as Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini look to roam and cause danger.

Adrian sends a kick straight down to Joel Robles. That's sloppy and from the restart, Seamus Coleman ends up having to engage in a foot race with Antonio as West Ham threaten. The full-back has too much zip for his man.
