    Inter Milan 0-0 Southampton

It's a decent start to the second half as Inter finally put a move together, Eder involved in the D before threading it through to skipper Mauro Icardi on the left-hand side of the penalty area, he leans back and slices it wide.

    Good chance.

Dusan Tadic slides a peach of a pass inside the full-back to set Jay Rdoriguez into the area, but he is stopped by a perfect sliding tackle from Miranda. Wonderful tackle!

Rodriguez then heads the corner into the net but the ref had long-since whistled for a foul. That looked soft - though the Inter backline had all stopped playing.

Jose Mourinho did not say Henrikh Mkhitaryan was unavailable for selection when asked yesterday, so it can only be presumed he is.

Therefore, his absence, not just from the team but the Manchester United bench, is an odd one.

The Armenian has been injured, but he has not been part of a matchday squad since being substituted at half-time on his only start, against Manchester City last month.

Mourinho paid Borussia Dortmund £26.3m for him in July.

Jose Mourinho makes seven changes from the starting line-up that drew 0-0 away to Liverpool on Monday.

Wayne Rooney is the headliner grabbing promotion as he steps up from the bench, while Luke Shaw makes his first start since being criticised by Mourinho after the 3-1 defeat away to Watford. Anthony Martial is also included.

Paul Pogba, David de Gea, Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling are the men to keep their place from the trip to Anfield.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw, Carrick, Pogba, Mata, Rooney, Lingard, Martial

Shane Long can't continue, on comes goal machine Charlie Austin. If you can score in the North Berks League Division One, you can score in the San Siro.

What is going on elsewhere in the 18:00 BST games?

Well, French league leaders Nice - who have left an injured Mario Balotelli back home - are 1-0 up away to Red Bull Salzburg in Group I.

Celta Vigo and Ajax are level at 1-1 after an entertaining first half.

Perennial Premier League target Yevhen Konoplyanka - who swapped Sevilla for Schalke in the summer - has scored the only goal in the first half away to Krasnodar in Group I.

And here is a new one for you to punch into your European sat-nav: Osmanlispor.

This season is the first in the Turkish side's history that they have made the group stages of European competition and they are heading to the top of Group L as it stands after going 2-0 up on Spanish side Villarreal.

More good work down the left wing by Sam McQueen - I've been very impressed with what I've seen so far of his work.

Manchester United v Fenerbahce (20:05 BST)

Tonight's game will pit United against their former striker Robin van Persie.

The Dutchman, now 33, was signed from Arsenal in 2012 by Sir Alex Ferguson, but the Scot retired at the end of Van Persie's first season.

The former Arsenal forward was sold to Fenerbahce by Louis van Gaal in 2015.

Asked if he thought he would still be at United had Ferguson stayed, Van Persie said: "When I signed that was the idea, that Sir Alex would stay on for a few more years.

"What happened, happened. I don't think you have to make it bigger than it is. You shake hands and move on to the next chapter."

Fenerbahce's team plane was forced to make an emergency landing after it was hit by a bird on its way to the UK for Thursday's Europa League game against Manchester United.

The private chartered aircraft was travelling, external from Istanbul in Turkey when it was diverted to Budapest, Hungary.

A second plane was sent from Istanbul to pick the team up from Budapest and take them to Manchester.

Arron Palmer: Ronaldo, RVP, Di Maria, Tevez, Evra, Pogba, Hernandez, Forlan... yes, Manchester United could have been quite a side. Shame.

Andy, Accrington: I reckon Burnley's XI would be alright; Lafferty, Ings, Cahill (loan), Rodriguez, Chaplow, Trippier, Gascoigne et al would slot into our current team very nicely! All in their prime of course.

All Southampton, and yet it's the hosts who nearly snatch a lead. Just a long ball forward nodded down, Eder is alive to it and hammers in a half-volleyed effort from 20 yards, it snakes along the turf and skids a yard wide of Fraser Forster's post.
