I caught 10 minutes of a Matt Le Tissier documentary on the TV the other night. A walking goal-of-the-season competition.

What a ball that is! Liverpool may already be lining up a mega-money move for Sam McQueen as the 21-year-old whips in a hell of a ball from the left, fantastic, and Inter keeper Samir Handanovic just about keeps it away from Jay Rodriguez, with the ball bobbling goalwards and then cleared. A real chance.

And then James Ward-Prowse flashes a rising shot over from the edge of the box after a cutback from Cuco Martina!

Pierre Hojbjerg - man of the match thus far for me - again picks the ball up in midfield and leaves the Inter men in his wake, a fine run but he then overcooks his through-ball and even Shane Long can't catch it.

It has been pretty quiet so far in the 18:00 BST kick-offs.

The only goal so far has come in the Czech Republic where former Blackburn 'meh' striker Nikola Kalinic has put Fiorentina ahead against Slovan Liberec.

That is the 28-year-old's third in 10 games for his club this season.

You can only hear the Southampton fans in the San Siro. If you're there tonight, and were at Scunthorpe and Wycombe just a few years ago, this must feel amazing.

James Ward-Prowse whips in a belting free-kick that is asking to be buried but Virgil van Dijk just can't quite reach it. 

Southampton look utterly composed and it's perhaps no surprise. They may be relative newcomers on this stage but tonight is Claude Puel's 91st match in European competition.

Pierre Hojbjerg has another driving run down the right but his cross is eventually cut out.

If Southampton could field all of their players from the last 10 years or so - Bale, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alderweireld, Shaw, Clyne, Lallana, Lovren - they'd prbably win the league wouldn't they?!

Oriol Romeu, built like a Bond villain who has a non-speaking role but falls to his death from a train, wins it back again with a crunching tackle and is then fouled in a dangerous area. Matthew Le Tissier would bend this in, even now.

All in all it's a good start from the Saints. 

Pierre Hojbjerg does really well to win the ball back for Southampton and free Dusan Tadic, but he fouls his man. He would have been clear.

Then moments later Jay Rodriguez does get free of the Inter defence, but as he tries to cut on to his right foot he loses balance and it runs away from him. Ring rusty.

Ooooh a shocker from right-back Cuco Martina! He just doesn't look up and plays a backpass which sells Fraser Forster horribly short, Inter captain Mauro Icardi is on it in a flash, Forster makes himself big(ger), Icardi tries to round him and Forster cuts out his backheel.

Great goalkeeping. Horrific defending.

Looks like Shane Long is starting on the left of a front three for Southampton. Good to see Jay Rodriguez back in the big time too. He was only an injury away from {probably} playing at the World Cup for England a few years ago. Yet to re-find that sort of form.

The fans are out in a mostly empty San Siro. There are 7,000 Saints fans making plenty of noise in a crowd which is estimated in the early 20,000s.
