  1. 'What do we expect?'published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

    England 2-2 Spain

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on Radio 5 live

An OK performance from England. Realistically, what do we expect? Under Gareth Southgate we have seen three steady performances and this was no different. There was never going to be any great change just because we were playing Spain at Wembley.

Spain deserved something. They didn't create a lot but they really put England under pressure in the final 15 minutes.

England kick-off, and the referee blows his whistle.

    Well then...

With what must be the last kick of the game, Isco is rewarded for great persistence in the box, flicking the ball through Tom Heaton's legs from a tricky angle.

    How very England.

    England 2-1 Spain

Nervous finish to this game, can England hold on?

Into the last minute of stoppage time. There's a huge roar from the home fans, full time? Nope, a paper aeroplane successfully landed on the pitch...

  6. CLOSE!published at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

    England 2-1 Spain

There'll be five minutes of injury time. There's a few jeers and whistles from the pocket of Spain fans because Jordan Henderson is down injured.

He's able to get up and carry on and immediately Spain charge forward. They've come to life and only a good John Stones block prevents Isco from getting a shot on target. He was unmarked and 14 yards from goal - a really, really good chance.

Northern Ireland's unbeaten home record disappears down the drain. An understrength Croatia end their hosts' 10-match unbeaten run at Windsor Park.

    Northern Ireland 0-3 Croatia

Croatia have switched off. They're ready for a shower and a decent film on the bus home. Their defence passes the ball out for a corner, Kyle Lafferty nodding over the bar from the resulting set-piece.

Two minutes of stoppage time coming up...

    Iago Aspas

With minutes left, England's defence is breached courtesy of a lovely goal by Iago Aspas. The former Liverpool striker, on fire in La Liga at the moment, drives forward, cutting in from the right before powering a shot into the roof of the net.

    Enough time for an equaliser?

What's this all about? The referee stops play suddenly, for what it isn't entirely clear. He picks up the ball and as it is put down the the turf at halfway where Inigo Martinez swiftly goes for a cheeky attempt at goal.

Gareth Southgate is not happy with whatever all that was about, he's fuming at the fourth official.

    Odd carry on.

    Northern Ireland 0-3 Croatia

Northern Ireland's best chance of the evening. Predictably it falls to Kyle Lafferty, who can't squeeze the ball past Croatia keeper Lovre Kalinic. Not tonight.

    Northern Ireland 0-3 Croatia

Petering out is this one now. Northern Ireland fans are legging it out of Windsor Park, trying to beat the post-match traffic. Something is telling them their team isn't going to maintain the unbeaten home run...

Eight minutes to go and John Stones reads the danger well to stab the ball away from Alvaro Morata's feet inside the box.

On the rare occasion Spain do attack, the England defence has done what it has to do. Better after some shaky recent displays.
