  2. A show of respectpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

Teams are out at nine Championship stadiums up and down the country, with kick-off minutes away.

Several clubs will mark the recent air crash in Colombia which claimed the lives of 71 people, including many of the squad and staff from Brazilian side Chapecoense.

The club were travelling to Medellin to face Atletico Nacional in the final of the Copa Sudamericana when the accident happened on Monday.

  3. Rams resurgent under McClarenpublished at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Wigan v Derby (15:00 GMT)

    Steve McClarenImage source, Rex Features

Derby County have been resurgent since Steve McClaren returned to the iPro Stadium for a second spell in charge of the club.

The former England boss has won five of his seven games back with the Rams, who are now ninth in the table after four consecutive victories.

New Wigan Athletic manager Warren Joyce recorded his first win at the third attempt last time out at Huddersfield.

Those points lifted the Latics up to 22nd, and one point from safety.

These two sides have scored the joint-fewest goals in the Championship this season, with 16 each. I hope it's not a quiet afternoon at the DW Stadium...

  4. Streaky Owls host solid Prestonpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

Sheffield Wednesday v Preston (15:00 GMT)

    Fernando ForestieriImage source, Rex Features

Last season's beaten play-off finalists Sheffield Wednesday have had mixed fortunes in the new campaign but are currently a point off the play-offs.

The Owls, who were last in the Premier League in 1999-2000, haven't yet won three consecutive games this season.

At least forward Fernando Forestieri is starting to find his form, with two goals in his last two taking his tally to five this term.

Carlos Carvalhal's side have lost two of their last three at Hillsborough and welcome a Preston side who have only lost once in their last 10 games.

  5. Pressure building on Norwich's Neilpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Norwich v Brentford (15:00 GMT)

    Alex NeilImage source, Rex Features

Norwich boss Alex Neil must be coming under pressure from the board following a run of five consecutive league defeats.

Canaries chairman Ed Balls has been busy practicing his cha-cha-cha and dancing to Gangnam Style on Strictly Come Dancing but, after being voted off the BBC One show, the former MP can now concentrate on matters at Carrow Road.

Another defeat for Neil today and the Scot could be facing a departure of his own.

Today's opponents Brentford have had a poor run themselves, losing their last three Championship games.

After registering only one win in their past eight matches, the west London side are four points above the relegation zone.

  6. Can Reading make it six in a row?published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Fulham v Reading (15:00 GMT)

    Jaap StamImage source, Rex Features

Jaap Stam must be one happy Dutchman as Reading are the in-form side in the Championship.

The former Manchester United defender doesn't look like a man who often smiles, but he's guided the Royals to five consecutive wins and third place in the table.

They make the trip to Fulham today looking to close the gap on the automatic promotion places.

The Whites are four points off the play-off places and Stam's fellow hard-man Slavisa Jokanovic could do with a result after defeat at Brighton last weekend.

There could be some steely gazes in both dugouts today.

  13. From bad to worse for Rotherhampublished at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Burton v Rotherham (15:00 GMT)

    Paul WarneImage source, Rex Features

Rotherham's torrid season took another turn for the worse this week when Kenny Jackett resigned after just five games and 39 days in charge.

The Millers are bottom of the Championship, on a run of 14 games without a win and a rather daunting 12 points from safety.

Paul Warne takes caretaker charge today and will need an early Christmas miracle to breathe new life into Rotherham's battle for survival.

Looking to heap more misery on the Yorkshire side are Burton, who are looking to register a first win in five games.

Nigel Clough's side are just one point above the relegation zone. This one could be a real scrap...

  14. Mid-table battle at Ashton Gatepublished at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

Bristol City v Ipswich (15:00 GMT)

    Lee JohnsonImage source, Rex Features

It's been a difficult spell for Bristol City boss Lee Johnson too, with the Robins losing five of their last seven.

The Ashton Gate side have slid from sixth to 14th in the table and are now six points above the bottom three.

Ipswich, today's visitors, are one spot behind City in the Championship, with the two sides only separated by goal difference.

Mick McCarthy's Tractor Boys were struggling for goals until last weekend's 3-0 win over QPR.

However, they've failed to score in three of their last four away games.

  15. Terriers on the slidepublished at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Blackburn v Huddersfield (15:00 GMT)

    David WagnerImage source, Getty Images

It looks like some green shoots of recovery are in bloom at Blackburn, who took eight games to register their first league win of the season.

Owen Coyle's side have won their last two games, and could move further away from the relegation zone with a positive result today.

Visitors Huddersfield Town, the Championship's early pacesetters, have lost their mojo in recent weeks.

David Wagner has seen the Terriers lose five of their last seven and they could slip out of the play-off places if they lose today.

  16. Blues look to make it eight unbeaten at homepublished at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Birmingham v Barnsley (15:0 GMT)

    Gary RowettImage source, Getty Images

Gary Rowett has been making steady progress since joining Birmingham in 2014, and City fans will be hopeful of sustaining a promotion challenge this season.

The Blues sit fourth in the table heading into today's clash against Barnsley, having won their last two games.

Barnsley have only won one of their last 11 league games and conceded five times as they lost to Nottingham Forest last Friday.

The fact Birmingham are unbeaten in seven games at St Andrews may also be a concern for the Tykes.

  17. New Championship leaders tonight?published at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Cardiff v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

    Chris HughtonImage source, Getty Images

The biggest game of the day, in terms of promotion to the promised land of the Premier League, is in Wales.

Brighton, aiming to make it 13 games unbeaten, will go back to the top of the table if they win at Cardiff.

Since suffering a 4-1 defeat at the Cardiff City Stadium in February, Chris Hughton's Seagulls have only lost twice away from home; to Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs in May and to leaders Newcastle this season.

Cardiff, second bottom, have lost three of their last four under Neil Warnock.

  19. Recap: Forest overcome nine-man Magpiespublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2016

    Nottm Forest 2-1 Newcastle

Paul Dummett of Newcastle is sent offImage source, Rex Features

I'm still trying to make sense of what happened to Newcastle in their match at Nottingham Forest last night.

First Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for kicking out at Henri Lansbury, and Forest's Nicklas Bendtner missed the resulting penalty.

Newcastle took the lead, then had Paul Dummett sent off on the stroke of half-time for a foul on Lansbury, who had his effort from the spot saved too.

Playing against nine men in the second half, Bendtner equalised and the Reds grabbed a late winner through an own goal.

It means Newcastle could slip from the summit of the Championship this evening.
