Kevin de Bruyne does not deserve to be on the losing side. He has been head and shoulders above the rest of the players on the pitch. Once again, he is them architect of a chance for Manchester City as he crosses low for Sergio Aguero, who just needs to stretch out a boot to tap in but the ball is agonisingly just out of reach.

It was a brilliantly worked goal. Everton have been defending deep and they have been using Kevin Mirallas as the buffer.

Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi was playing Mirallas onside, when he gets through the defence, he then has the awareness to pick out Romelu Lukaku, who was stood still in the area and sends City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo the wrong way.

Pep Guardiola scratches the top of his head in frustration. His side has had all the possession, but have only had one shot on target and pay the price for poor defending.

    Romelu Lukaku

First shot on target for Everton, first goal.

It comes from a poor Gael Clichy clearance as he hits the ball straight at Tom Davies. The midfielder immediately slides a pass through the defence for Kevin Mirallas, who squares for Romelu Lukaku and the striker slams home his 13th of the season.

Agubata Odinaka: Can't believe I am saying this but Raheem Sterling is looking more like a £50 million signing. Huge improvement from last season.

    Everton 0-0 Man City

Kevin de Bruyne gets another ball over the defence as he picks out David Silva clear on goal. Joel Robles gets off his line quickly and Silva opts to keep the ball rather than shoot. He attempts to wriggle his way between several Everton shirts, but there's too many of them and the home side clear.

Manchester City are looking to probe Everton's right side. That's largely with link up between the likes of David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne, who has delievered some early crosses from the left. We have also seen Sergio Aguero pull towards the same flank. Perhaps City are looking to expose young Everton defender Mason Holgate, who is operating on the right of a back three.

The pitch is helping the tempo of the game, it is very slick. Both Everton's and Manchester City's attacking trios will determine the outcome of this game.

    Everton 0-0 Man City

Kevin Mirallas, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley can sense some nerves in this City back line and are quick to close down the defender in possession. An effective tactic, but they'll want it to produce a goal soon. Not sure how long they can keep up that sort of tempo.

    Everton 0-0 Man City

Nervous moment for Manchester City fans as Claudio Bravo is put under a bit of pressure with a back pass, but manages to clear before the lurking Romelu Lukaku gets too close.

Twenty minutes have flown by. Entertaining stuff so far at Goodison Park.

Kevin de Bruyne's ball through the middle arrives quickly at Sergio Aguero's feet and pings off the striker. If he'd manage to control it, he was clean through.

This has been fairly end to end so far, the ball fizzing off the wet surface.

Everything is going down the left for Manchester City as they come forward again through Kevin de Bruyne. He slides a pass behind the defence with Sergio Aguero his target, but Ashley Williams manages to hook away. No chance this game is going to end goalless.

Plenty of you reckon that Man City should have had a penalty a few minutes ago.

Andy Rudd: Could have been a penalty, but what about Davies head nearly being kicked off near the City box before?!

Lewis Starks: China can have Clattenburg... Stonewall penalty! Then again, the FA wouldn't reinvest in better referees... #bbcfootball

Liz Tray: How is that not a penalty?? Which ref has the guts to give an ex-Liverpool player a pen at Goodison? Not this one!
