I am surprised no-one has mentioned Edgar Davids in the bizarre squad numbers chat after he wore the number one shirt while playing for Barnet.

Why? Because he is Edgar Davids. Look at him. No cares given.

You can read more about the history of odd squad number choices in this BBC Three piece here.

Scott Warmisham: Derek Riordan wore 01 at Hibs for a season. Everyone laughed at him.

    Michael: Kante 7 at Chelsea.

Morgan Schneiderlin has joined Everton and will wear number two on his back, despite playing in central midfield. So have you ever had to wear a crazy number on the pitch? Or which players do you recall have done?

Antonio Conte interrupts press conference to eat journalists cake

One thing I have come to understand as a journalist is you don't pinch another journo's food.

However, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was feeling brazen after his side's 3-0 win at Leicester and leaned over his table to grab a bit of a reporter's cake. The journalist was smiling, but I bet inside he was fuming.

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC Match of the Day

Bournemouth rested everyone for the FA Cup tie last week against Millwall but you couldn’t tell that on this performance. The way Bournemouth have capitulated recently is a real worry for them. They’re too easy to play against.

Michael Reid: Most bizarre squad number? Has to be central defender William Gallas wearing the Number 10 shirt for Arsenal.

Kal: Most bizarre is Zamarano for inter Milan wore 8+1 I believe it was because he wanted 9 but that was worn by Ronaldo. Pretty sure Milan Baros wore 5 for Liverpool as well.

    Excellent memory, Kal...

Marco Silva's predecessor, Mike Phelan, was on BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme this morning.

"I certainly want to be a manager again," he said. "I've been in the game long enough to know there's a certain period when you can reflect then a certain period when you get itchy again.

"It (management) was the next step - I wanted to find out whether I was capable of doing that sort of role and I felt good.

"It has whetted my appetite to stay in the management game. Obviously I can do the coaching and assistant bit, but it's just a case of sitting back and seeing what develops."

  10. 'Hernandez is a goalscorer'published at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

    Hull City 3-1 Bournemouth

    Ian Wright
Former Arsenal striker on BBC Match of the Day

Hull were very good. They went a goal down and showed a lot of character to come back. Abel Hernandez, who scored twice, showed if you stay in the middle of the pitch you remain the focal point and you have chance of getting on the end of balls. He is a goalscorer.

  13. Would it surprise me if Costa went to China? Absolutely notpublished at 11:04 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

    Leicester 0-3 Chelsea

    Ian Wright
Former Arsenal striker on BBC Match of the Day

For Costa to come out at this stage when they need him so much feels very strange. The way the players played today they looked like they didn’t miss him. He’s scored 14 goals this season - you need someone like that in this team. It seems like it’s derailed what's going on.

Would you be surprised if he took up the big money move to China?

Absolutely not. Costa doesn’t seem like the sort person who cares what people think. Whatever happens - if it's his back it's very hard to detect - it's turned him, something has turned him.

  15. Big win for Arsenalpublished at 10:56 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

    Swansea 0-4 Arsenal

Some chap called O. Goal looks an excellent signing for Arsenal after he bagged twice in yesterday's 4-0 Swansea.

I jest of course. It wasn't a new signing, rather the unfortunate Swansea scoring two own goals in Paul Clement's first Premier League game in charge of the hosts.

Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez also scored as Arsenal climbed back into the top four.

Matt Bell: Hernan Crespo's successor in the number 9 shirt for Chelsea was ... Khalid Boulahrouz

  17. 'What an unbelievable goal'published at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

    West Ham 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC Match of the Day

What an unbelievable goal by Carroll. The fact West Ham have come out and said Dimitri Payet doesn’t want to play… he’s a great player but take the money and get some new players in.

I think we’ll see some new signings coming into Palace before the transfer window closes.

  18. 'You don't say you don't want to play for the club anymore'published at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

    West Ham 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Ian Wright
Former Hammers and Palace striker on BBC Match of the Day

West Ham finally produced a good display. Andy Carroll played a massive part. Hammers fans just wanted to see their players chasing and working hard.

Sofiane Feghouli had a really good game today. The Carroll goal was as good as I've seen - better contact than Wayne Rooney's against Man City (in 2011). The West Ham manager needed this win and the club needed it.

On Dimitri Payet wanting to leave: "I think whatever happens you do not say you don't want to play for the club anymore."

It seems you can't go a round of Premier League fixtures without a wonder goal being scored these days.

The latest to send Twitter into overdrive with his flashy strike was Andy Carroll, who executed a sublime scissor kick in West Ham's victory over Crystal Palace yesterday.
